mpaul0055
Alright folks, Shes arrived Excuse my writing skills, I didn’t do too well at English… Well The Day Eventually Arrived.. It was time to go collect my new Mk5 R32. To say I was excited would be an understatement, it fact I was like a 7 year old on its way to Alton Towers… Arrived at the dealers at 10:30, rushing through the door, girlfriend trailing behind… I ask for the sales advisor and after a five minute wait im greeted by Vickie who says she has some Bad News!... Now hearing this my thoughts where that someone’s backed into a jack or the doors been scratched or something like that. But how was I wrong. I think it was when she asked if I wanted to sit down, I realised there may have been a bigger problem. I was told that as they where valleting the car and she went to check it over, she realised that the car was a Manual, and not DSG like I had ordered. Completely there fault and was ordered incorrectly. I was told I could have a passat for 10 weeks until another one arrived… Im sure you can guess what my reply was… NO… I said id take the manual till the dsg arrived, but they where having none of that. Basically It was a case of take the passat ant wait , or cancel the order. This is when I asked to search thought the dealerships stock list. At this time the broker I was using for the car arrived at the stealers and took them by the balls. Things where starting to look up. After searching through stock levels we found a DBP 3 Door DSG instock, at the stealers … But it was speced upto death. Mine was pretty standard with the monte carlo cloth & few extra goodies but nothing special. This one had pretty much everything on it making the car rocket up by about £3000. But a deal was there to be done, and it was. Ended up driving away at 5 o clock in that car after they turned it round in a day. Obviously worked out much better for myself, as ive not got a cd changer, Leather, phone prep, parking sensors etc…. All for very very little extra. Well that’s my story of my collection, it went from a great day, to a shite day, back to an excellent day… To say I was shattered when we got home would be an understatement. Now I haven’t really driven her too much, but wow…. What a car, the build quality over my Civic Type R is unbelievable, I really feel like im in something much more substantial… tried S mode out once, good lord, cant wait till I hit around 700 miles so I can open her up more, although I have been round the 6k mark once… or twice… Work is proving hard today… Who wants to be sat at work when there brand new R32 is sat outside, in the sun, beckoning me…. Will post some pics up as soon as she is polished, but for now, there’s just this one out my window this morning… Big thanks to Phil @ DSG Autos who without his help, I would definitely not have a R32 toady. BrakeSnake
See, there was a rainbow at the end of the pi55ing down rain... Nice deal in the end, good job you had a broker there to help you out, without them, VW prob would have been a tad more cemented in stone on any arrangement.... mpaul0055
Aye, Definately worked out for the best... Just absolutely in love with the car... So much a £300 bribe for my Chelsea tickets last night almost tempted me, god am i glad i didnt sell em.... Any hows, This DSG milarky... lol Im getting used to it slowly and surley, but havent really tried it in S yet as its only done 130 miles so far. I was just wondering how many people drive it in S all the time. Or is it just something you use when you wanna have a little fun? Cheers folks

Enjoy the mota
AGK512
You wouldn't use S mode all the time ... you'll see why when you try it Basically it just holds the lowest possible gear +1 (approx) for any given road speed. ie if your easing along at 50-60 in 6th and put it in S it will drop to 4th you can override with paddles but if you change upto 6th it will change back to 4th after about 10secs It also only changes up at the red line and blips the throttle on the down changes which is rather nice when you are in the mood It's pretty obvious whento use it once you have tried it
mpaul0055
Cheers Guys... I just cant get obver how great this car is, Im in love... Noticed though on Gear change there is an audiable noise, sounds a bit like a dump valve. Cant work out if its the exhaust or the clutch. Also i had quite a strong spell of clutch, after i had come back from a run, i hadnt gone over 4.5k, but i did drop down once and hit 6k once, Do you think its just the newness that was making it smell.. dont want any issues. Cheers Guys
Maxyboy
When i picked up my car and was babying it through the first 1k miles, with the early gear changes i always used to upshift exactly when the flapper valve was opening, and then shutting straight away. Causing a kind of popping noise. That could maybe be what your hearing.
mpaul0055
Thought id post up a little update guys with a pic or two. First of all, im in love with this car... Never have i been so happy with a new car. Ive always had the new car bug, but this thing is like a dream. First Automatic, Dsg is awesome, just getting used to the downshifts at the moment, although only had it in S once, only 400 more miles to go 4WD... WOW.... Ive never looked out the window, seen its rainging and gone and jumped in the car ever before, but thats all i do if it rains now.. After having some overpowered FWD cars, and some unsafe old jap RWD cars, this thing is just a complete pleasure to drive. Couple of things that are worring me slightly. Engine Noise.. Ive notced this mentioned quite a bit, and mine does make a racket at tickover. Is it generally a noisey engine, as the CTR engine was pretty quite and mechanical. Rattles and Squekes.... Well as the cars got 600 mile son it now, ive started to notice a few rattles, which is to be expected, But theres a really loud knocking noise coming from the rear of the car.. Dont suppose there any cmmon rattles/knocking that occurs.. Ive check everywhere and cant locate it... Cheers Guys
Maxyboy
Is the knocking noise from the back when you go over a speed bump or or similar? If it is it could well be the small rubber balls on the end of the parcel shelf string swinging about. So nothing to worry about.
mpaul0055
Alreet Maxy... Doesnt sound like the glove box, started to come and go a bit too now. So sods law id take it to the dealer and itll stop.. After listening closely and driving around with my dad in the back were to the conclusion its coming from underneether the car, sounds a bit like the zorst hitting on houseing ever so slightly. Was about to investigate further, but the noise has stopped 100% now... lol Sods law,
bcarter20
I have had a similar noise on our R32 and it has just been traced by dealer to a problem with one of the exhaust rubber mounts. The noise only appeared when the car had been running for a few minutes to allow the exhaust to heat up.
mpaul0055
carter, sounds like the exact same problem... Gonna get my little list of niggles together and head down to VW... Shame the local one is small so they aint had many r32s through the doors
mpaul0055
Anyone Else had a problem with the exhaust mounts? Is this a common problem, because its driving me nuts now.. lol

Sorry to hear about the rattles and stuff. As you mention the performance in the wet is staggering, i love the fact you can floor this car from the lights in the wet without wheelspin, it's incredible and feels so sure footed in corners too. Roll on the 1000 mile mark eh!
mpaul0055
1007 MILES.... GOD IS IT CHISTMAS..... Opened her up fully last night and was dissapointed the first few open throttle experiances... But after a good 5 miles off quick acceleration and high revs she seemed to start loosenging up... Hixter im having more than a blast with the car, im in love... Its one thing thats aways annoyed me with every catr ive owned, getting them front wheels down. But now... Theres just a constant grin ear to ear. One main thing i think i should mention, is some hesitation in take off. It seems i plant my foot, and i get the sort of hesitation you guys talk about with Launch Control. But this is just normal... The gears definaely in 1... May go and take esp off and try, could it be that?... God damn work... Thanks god for TSN.
AGK512
"May go and take esp off and try" ... cheapest performance mod you can do ! ... just keep it on the black stuff !
mpaul0055
Cheers Silver, Managed to keep it on the black stuff and made such a difference on take offs. Going to have to mess with S mode a little more now... Sods law though, pulling in the drive, full lock left.. and all i herd was a massive GROAAAANNNNNNN followed by my Agrhhhhhh Typical. Well the lists getting bigger, but im loving the car more and more and more. Cheers for your help folks... Oh yeh, the lumbar supoort scared the Crap out of me, didnt know it was there or electric... Thought someone had kicked me in the back.. lol
AGK512
Yea the haldex doesnt really get tp do it's thing with it on as it starts cutting the power very early. When it's wet you can really feel it do it's stuff just watch you don't end up with a 250hp lawnmower
