330dcoupe
are SOME of the most ill (road) mannered, dangerous, stupid, and selfish drivers on our roads today. Whats the point in some of these people telling everyone else they have a baby on board (most of the time they do!) when they're driving around like a loonies? So as i witnessed a fella (and his family) in their people carrier undertaking, dodging in and out of traffic and tailgating - I came up with a rough conclusion as to why some of these people that carry children might be driving like maniacs....... It's the children! Surely a baby crying or an infant whining can't be very good for the drivers concentration levels...even worse, it makes them angry and drive like their on a family suicide mission. I personally think anyone carrying a baby/child caught driving like a arsh*le should be banned from carrying kids again.
stevie_d
Quite right. I had a woman pull out onto a roundabout, causing me to do an emergency stop and pray to god that I wouldn't hit her. She then had the audacity to give me the finger when she drove past...I realised why when I saw her rear window 'little angel on board' So obviously everyone must give her right of way and she has the right to drive like a cnut
RedRobin
....I tend to agree with you on this one. It's as if the 'Baby on Board' sign gives them a license to be a bad driver. I often think that it's the baby who is driving! Apparently the sign is there to inform emergency services.

[/ QUOTE ] I'll be honest here - I always keep a bigger distance between myself and any car that has the 'baby on board' sticker on it...even if they are hogging the outside land of the M1 doing 60mph. DaddyDub
We have had this convorsation before on TSN. I personally have one for use when my Son is in the vehicle but if anyone accused me of driving like and @rsehole while I had my little Boy in the car with me, I would say, your on drugs! Some of us drive perfeclty safley all the time and especially when we have our kids in the car. Rant over.
Rachel
It's a licence to road rage and show off their very poor driving ability down here. That's with or without kids. It's almost like most of them think putting a stupid sign up in the windows gives them "special powers" on the road us mere mortals obviously fail to appreciate. RedRobin
In my opinion, a driver should drive to the best of their ability IRRESPECTIVE of whether any baby or child is in their car or not - Period! Their driving style should not be any different according to who the passengers are.
m4ttm4son
^ Somewhat agree RR, that's why I've never seen the point of the sign in the first place. It doesn't want to make me not want to hit you any more if you've got a kid on board.

I do NOT change my driving style dependent on whether the car in front has a 'baby on board' sign or not. However, I must admit that I drive slower with passengers in my car. This is because I find them a distraction, especially inftants.
DaddyDub
That isn't why people have "baby on board" signs. C'mon guy's (and galls) you know the answer to this one, its so in the event of an accedent, fire crews and Police know there was or is a baby/child somewhere in or around the car. njc851
but blatantly, they, or rather a lot of them, leave the stickers in all the time, so they'd be wasting the emergency services time, were they to have left the kids at home
DaddyDub
Yeah that's probably true. A few sweeping statements tarring all those people with these signs with the same brush on this post though.

[/ QUOTE ] Don't mean to tar and stereotype mate, I am sure that the vast majority of drivers with those signs are very competent However, it's always the small minority that stick in your mind, much like motorcyclists

I'm not too sure how many people realise the baby on board signs are for the emergency services, I for one didn't
randellp
Hmm, I would have though that as soon as you see booster or child seats, or any other baby paraphenalia, the emergency services would check the rest of the car for any children, if they don't do a full vehicle check that as procedure anyway. What would happen if the rear window blew out and the sign was left 200yds up the road for no-one to see?? I had heard of a baby being left to die in a written off car but always thought of it as an overblown urban myth for paranoid American parents. Ooh there you go, paranoid Canadian parents then.... http://www.snopes.com/horrors/parental/babysign.asp But it does say he based his invention on "stickers he saw in Europe" so perhaps the dead baby story is true over here.... I, personally, think they are pathetic and serve no purpose whatsoever, especially as now a lot say 'Back off baby on board' or 'little princess on board' and ?!?!?!......... Im off ........... M8CKN
What about the "Babe On Board" signs!?! These are a distracion to me as I always have a look...100% of the time so far the driver should be fined under the Trade Description Act. Baby On Board signs are a mans way of saying "Look, I can fill a Pram"
JamesB
I'd be pretty worried if the emergency services didn't check in the back seat for passengers, babies or otherwise, as a matter of course. I've never been tempted by one because I don't see the point. I don't change my driving habits when I see one as I hope that I drive reasonably safely anyway whatever the occupants of the car in front. Similarly, I reckon that the aggressive tailgating twat that I assume these signs are supposed to protect against is unlikely to suddenly become courteous and patient when he sees it. I can't say it really bothers me that other people have them though and haven't noticed them to be particularly bad drivers. Mind you, round here the standard of driving is so lamentable that it is hard to stand out unless you have wiped out at least five other cars, three cyclists and a goat.
