R4V_S3
Hey people, Quick question.. should i be using a fuel additive in my 2001 S3? It's had a re-map but that is about it.. If so what do you recommend? Also what about a cat cleaner additive? Many thanks! Rav
Paul
Just use good fuel. Ie V Power from Shell. I was warned off fuel additives by my tuner (specifically Millers Octane booster) as it can cause combustion to burn hotter, which could be detrimental to items such as spark plugs etc.
stevie_d
As Paul says, use a decent quality fuel and you'll be fine
R4V_S3
Thanks for reply.. i do only use V power from shell, and sometimes unleaded from there. But where possible only use it from shell.. What about the previous owner(s) and what they used? Will that not effect mine?
Phil84afc
Tesco 99 is fine also to use mate. Reading through EVO, they also rate BP Ultimate, but it's only 97 Ron, whereas on the inside of your filler cap, Audi reccommend a minimum of 98 Ron for the S3. As the others say, don't both with fuel additives. Just stick with Shell or Tesco 99 if you can't use V Power.
R4V_S3
Ok guys thanks for your help!! Speaking of RON.. you guys temtped to try BP's ultimate 102? http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/doc.asp?c=52&i=16229 £2.42 litre of BP 102 "BP believes their new Ultimate 102 fuel can increase the power output of your Porsche 911 GT2 by around 100bhp"
Paul
I would rather not even try it, as it will take a tankful or more for the car to adapt to benifit from it.
Dandle
The car is only designed to run on 98 ron putting 102ron in will have very little effect as the map just isnt designed to use it. An import jap car on the other hand thats mapped for 101ron(i think that the number anyway) will see the benefit but you will pay for it. Paul
Audi's should cope to a degree with the knock sensors and advance the timing to suit. But it will take a tankful or two to adapt to it.
Dandle
[ QUOTE ] Audi's should cope to a degree with the knock sensors and advance the timing to suit. But it will take a tankful or two to adapt to it. [/ QUOTE ] I agree but they are still only mapped for up to 98ron. They will run fine on higher ron fuel but will see no benefit llfrom it at all. Turbo cars will advance the timing but limit the boost, so you see no gain unless they are mapped correctly.
s3geezer
£2.40 seems outrageous but it's only a bit over double. I paid feckin' 100.9p for V-power the other day. I've noticed it's been going up by a penny every week or so - cheeky feckers.
