CarMad
Whoo hooo its a 5 series born. Looks great, is it all you were hoping for ? Is the performance good etc.
Gangle
I am very pleased with the car, still keeping under 3000rpm at the mo, but seems to pull very nicely and the sound of the straight 6 is superb. The car is a lot quieter than the 335d I have driven, no diesel clatter whatever after moving off and the ride is alot smoother than on the 18" runflats of the 335d. I am glad I went for the 525, I just dont think the 535 is worth an extra 6k! I have got to have a ccc unit fitted tomorrow (voice control) and a salesman is going to drive it the 80mile round trip, he better look after it and fill it up again
chrisakrill
Very nice Gangle, looks the biz in grey with those alloys. Can't see where you plonked it into that wall though!!!, did you manage to T-Cut out the damage? One other question, how do you find the i-pod functionality through the i-drive? Alastair_A3
Looks awesome mate, brushed alu is streets ahead of the old cube trim! Grr im still waiting for mine Week after next with any luck
Gangle
I hit the wall on the n/s at the rear, wouldnt show up in pics anyway, but it will annoy me so will get it repaired soon. As for the ipod interface, it is brilliant to be able to control ipod fully and list artists, tracks etc, the only problem is I have 5,000 odd songs and the scroll function only has one speed unlike click wheel so takes ages to get through the list. Gangle
My car is having the ccc unit fitted at present, they are getting a quote from the bodyshop for bumper repair also, have left me with a 318d loaner. I dont like the feeling of somebody driving the car though, just hope he looks after the wheels! I have been looking over figures again and I eventually paid within £250 of Broadspeed and £850 of Coast2Coast, but obviously the problems I had helped with this
Gangle
My misery continues! just had a call from dealer, they want to keep the car overnight because codes? are not taking, more on the way from BMW. Well I have told them to bring the car back tonight and I will arrange for another visit at my convenience. Feel like somebodys got it in for me. Gangle
Just had a phone call from the general manager, have told him how pi$$ed off I am, especially having to send a £40k, 125 mile car back and get a filthy 318d as a loaner! He was extremely apologetic (as they always are!) and said will drop off an equivalent vehicle but will need my car for 2 days max at my convenience. Hopefully I can get the bumper done at the same time.
pile
Is that Auto gear stick only on the 5/X5 or is it now fitted to the 3 ? Looks very nice Gangle !
Gangle
The dealer has dropped off a 56 reg (pre LCI) 525d M Sport Auto as a loaner this morning, I have been for a quick drive and am very disappointed (compared to mine) The interior with Ali Cube trim is hideous The Engine is sluggish, would rather have a 520d compared to this one The Auto box is lumpy when changing Interior trim not up to LCI model I drive graphics very basic I have only driven it a couple of miles but makes me so glad I went for the 3.0 version, it is in a different league compared to the 2.5. and the LCI interior is so my classier IMO. CarMad
Confused... The engine in the 525d auto and manual is the same. Its always been a 3.0 engine badged as a 2.5 hasn't it.
Gangle
No mate, definitely not, pre LCI cars were 2.5l (2497cc) i think, the new cars are 2993cc. I have done 30-40 miles now and can honestly say i would never buy this car in 2.5l form, the engine just doesnt do the car justice, I am quite sure the 2.0d model would be almost as fast and a lot more economical. The 2.5l 6 doesnt even sound as good as the 3l.
CarMad
Doh, sounds like you got the better motor then, nice one.
Gangle
Just got my car back, now with 330 miles on the clock, and I have driven less than half of them!! Anyway all seems to be fine now, Voice control up and running, a pity they didnt fill the tank up though. The chap who dropped it off even commented on the marked improvement over the pre LCI 525 loaner, a different class altogether. just the small matter of the bumper repair now. chasdrury
So why LCI not FL for FaceLift? Just curious what it stands for?
