AudiPartner
What is the best one to go for? Snooper? Road Angel? Not looking to spend loads of cash. And I'd like it to be pretty small if possible.

PetrolDave
I'm happy with my Cyclops. Fits discretely on the dash (no sticky round circles on the screen as a give away), and stores in the top shelf of the glovebox when parked.
farmerpalmer
You beat me to it Audipartner. I am interested in buying a gps speed cam detector also. The road angel plus seems expensive at £300, but the reviews for the talex look good, and is v cheap by comparison. Need something up to date, as do not want to get caught out by the fuzz. Anyones to stay away from?? Heard bad reviews of enigma database used by snooper I think.
mb
Sorry to be pedantic but these aren't detectors they rely on receiving GPS signal & matching the car's location to a database - they are therfore only as good as the DB which it is important to update - they will therefore not detect vans, new cameras since DB update etc. I think they are good & I use a Micro Roadpilot but wanted you to understand you are more buying a reference warning than an actual detector if GPS based (some can add a radar or laser head to provide additional protection)
Daz
But radar is little used these days and laser detectors are as good as useless, if it goes off you've already been caught.
Woppum
I love my micropilot. It looks the part. Has one button! And displays your speed. I have had a few in my time, but I wont be swapping agin!
mb
[ QUOTE ] But radar is little used these days - I thought Gatso etc. were still radar and laser detectors are as good as useless, if it goes off you've already been caught. - agreed (sadly I know...) Daz
Yeah gatso's do use radar but they tend to be on the databases and they are painted bright yellow too, so easier to spot. My biggest worry is camera vans which use laser and can get you from quite a distance away.

edo
PS, you can get a laser module for the road pilot. However, Laser detectors are pointless - once they go off, they have got you.
farmerpalmer
Thanks mjcb, but I did put in my post that I am after a gps detector ( not radar/ laser detector), and also mentioned the accuracy of the databases,
Daz
I've got the Origin B2 unit and find that the database is pretty accurate. There's only been a couple of occasions where it's not picked up new gatso's. When that happens I press the button on the unit which marks the location and then that gets updated to the central database the next time I connect up. You can also add in your own personal markers too.

PetrolDave
[ QUOTE ] Little point buying a laser detector as they are about to become illegal [/ QUOTE ] The Bill which would have made them illegal failed to get through Parliament before the last General Election. So it will need to be included in another Bill before they can have another attempt to make them illegal.

Stocks will be available next week and i can asure you this is the unit to have for 2007. http://www.pogo-gps.co.uk/pogoalert.php
Oatz
Can you get a radar attachment for the microgo?
byron13
Just been looking into this myself so good timing Audi Partner. Quite fancy the Micro Go but the Road Angel plus is rechargeable which is nice. In an ideal world it would be hidden away and came up on the DIS !!! Can but dream I guess. Just been down to Halfords and the guy claims they are not allowed to open a the boxs and show me how they each mount!! Tw@t lost my sale then. Pogo alert looks promising until you see a side shot of it and it’s as thick a s a brick!! Like your neat install woppum Take it that the Micro Pilot needs a separate GPS antenna?? Where have you hidden this? Is it hard wired to the car electrics as well ?
AudiPartner
I'd like to hardwire my new Micro Go but I'm not sure how easy that is. Then it got me thinking... whats to stop me bridging off my cigaret lighter and installing a second one is a better position (hidden away) so I can leave it plugged in all the time without looking untidy? The other question remains, can I cheat the subscription on these things??!!
byron13
Hmmm - am sure you can - let me look into it.
