Guest
On Sunday I filled the tank with 0km left on the DIS and put in 63l of diesel. Upon restarting the car, I got the low fuel beep, and the fuel guage in the same position as it was before I filled. I drove on, knowing that I had a full tank. By the end of the journey, the guage had dropped beyond empty and still with zero miles on the DIS. Has anyone had this behaviour before? What do I start looking at? I'll be plugging in my vag-com this evening to see if there is anything showing. I think either I have a physical problem with the fuel sender, or an electrical problem. Is the fuel sender accessible under the rear seat squab? Mildly annoying as I am planning on selling the car this summer. Cathal.
alowe
i have seen this on a landrover, the problem then was that if you let the fuel go to low the sender unit would stick or get stuck at the lower level, i dont know if this is what yours is doing but it sounds the same. al
shark_90
The A4's have two senders in the tank. It sounds like one or maybe both have gone up the swanny. I'm very sure you'll get an answer from a fault scan. Not sure if they're accessible but underneath the boot carpet there is an access panel which could be for the pump but not sure. Given the way these dashboards work I think it's most likely to be the sender(s) in the tank
DanG
Bizzare but i also had a faulty fuel gauge this weekend... Filled up with 59 litres of 98, so it was definately full and yet it only showed 3/4 on the dash. Then the level went up to full and down to 3/4 again... Next day started off full and fell to 3/4 again after about 5 mins. DIS seemed unaffected... down to about 1/2 an indicated tank now, so really unsure where i am and will monitor the range instead for a few days. Its due a service in 1000 miles, so will raise it then....

PAH
I had this exact probelm on my 2006 A6 3.0TDI. Diagnosed by the dealer as faulty fuel sender, replaced under warranty, and no probelms since. Cheers Paul
