Laser Speed Gunned In The Dark....

....Before the sun was up at 4.50 am yesterday morning on a fast stretch of the A27 near Chichester(?), I collected another 3pts now making 6pts on my licence.

I was on my way to catch a flight from Gatwick and had already driven about 100 miles sticking rigidly to all the 20/30/40 etc limits and only pressing on at around 80-ish where conditions were safe. That dual carriageway stretch of the A27 is particularly smooth and built for speed but rounding a long curve my Road Angel suddenly warned "Laser! Laser!" and I glimpsed a police car hiding. Naturally I slowed but it was too late. I continued on at about 75 but became aware of being followed at text book distance and matching whatever speed I drove....My sixth sense told me to expect being pulled by Mr Plod at some stage soon. He followed me for quite a few miles before putting on his blue light (no siren) as we approached a parking layby.

I had switched off my car and was out before they were and greeted them "Good morning, gentlemen" with a smile. No point getting arsey and upping their anti. Blah, blah, blah, and paperwork, and the 'Home Office Approved' handheld lasergun displayed 93 mph - again!! My last, and first ticket ever, was also for 93 in a 70 in October last year. I wasn't asked anything about insurance, about drink, about where I was going or lived - They probably checked some of lt out while following me.

If there had been a speed camera warning sign, I had missed it but I think that my Xenons would have picked it up reflected on such a dark night. Perhaps Sussex do what Northampton do - One big sign at the county boundary which says they use speed cameras throughout the whole county - It's like crossing a state border in the USA!

The older policeman, about 40-something, told me that this stretch of road was easy to drive fast on and pointed out "especially in a nice performance car like yours, well within its capability" - Well, thanks for the compliment but it kind of gave the game away that they were out to get drivers! A form of entrapment! He then boasted that he'd just ten minutes earlier got a motorist for 97 mph. I didn't ask him his totally tally that night for fear I might get sarcastic.

So, for anyone who has asked previously on TSN, lasers do work in the dark. My Road Angel didn't save me but did allow me to continue without getting into worse trouble.

After 3 years my first 3pts will no longer count (though I understand they'll remain on record for a further period). So, am I right in understanding that at that stage (assuming I haven't collected further points - doubtless for 93mph again! grin.gif) my tally of points will then reduce according to their dates and that it's not 3 years since your last 'offence' before your licence is cleaned up at all? In other words, will my points 'account' reduce after the first points get 3 years old?

Bastards aren't they! grin.gif [The authority and not the policemen who are just doing their job].

I spent a very relaxed day in Geneva - Very warm and sunny and had a fine lunch with a friend in a pavement restaurant. Boy, oh boy, the women in Geneva are so very feminine and pretty - No chavvy types! My family once had a summer home on Lake Geneva - I could easily live over there and can well understand what's said in other threads about leaving the UK and all its rules and bureaucracy.... the_finger.gif

Don't let the bastards grind you down.

Hard luck matey.

Here's a little story about the A27

[ QUOTE ]

Speed camera makes £750,000

A temporary speed trap at roadwork's led to motorists being fined £750,000 in just two months.

Cameras were placed on both carriageways of the busy A27 at Falmer in East Sussex while a pedestrian subway was installed. The speed limit was reduced from 70mph to 40mph, but about 12,500 drivers failed to slow down, and incurred £60 fines.

The figures were disclosed in the 2003-2004 annual review of the Sussex Speed Camera Partnership, which runs the county's cameras.

The Government-funded organisation made just under £1.5m profit for the year, half provided by the motorists caught at the A27 roadworks during February and March, which was handed back to the Department for Constitutional Affairs.

A spokeswoman for the Partnership said it was "disappointing" that thousands of people were still speeding in Sussex. "All sites have speed limit reminders and camera symbol signs in advance of the camera and some have flashing vehicle activated signs (VAS). "If drivers and riders are missing all these warnings, what else are they missing on our roads?"

The review also found that serious injury crashes and deaths went down by 31% at fixed speed camera sites during the year, and 16% at mobile sites which are manned less often.

If you get 12+ points within 3 years your banned, my understanding is that is from the date of conviction NOT the date of offence.

Insurers will ask for details for 5 years, even if the endorsement lasts for 4 years on licence, and 3 years for totting up.

You look chilled out in the photo and don't we 'Polish up' well grin.gif

And suffer the consequences if they catch you. 123576-assfeck.gif

You're better off with one of these, atleast you'd have a valid reason for having one.

....Thanks, Daz 169144-ok.gif. I'll be looking into that - Front parking on my GTI is always very tricky as I can't see the front of the car from the driving seat.

There's a cheaper option - buy a cushion!

....I'm very glad that you take this attitude and that any different opinions, however passionately expressed, are respected. This is especially important because we haven't met and it's all words on a forum and tones can easily be misinterpreted or someone's character not understood. Mind you, some people still don't understand me even after we've met!

Cheers! beerchug.gif (though I don't drink! grin.gif)

....Hang on, are you saying that the RA'a laser detector (it's not a jammer or 'interferer') is illegal now?

Yes Indeedy

A quote from the Road Safety Act 2006

It doesnt make an awful lot of sense without the rest of the text but you get the drift 169144-ok.gif

GPS is ok but any radar/lasar detector and or jammer is illegal

Bad luck Robin...They obviously trapped you at 93mph. Did your Road Angel also agree with that speed? I guess that must have been at least 100mph on the VW speedo!

Very frustrating given the time of day and road conditions. I've previously done the Gatwick run from Basingstoke in the very early a few times and often come across the same thing - fortunately not gunning it myself. I guess they catch a few out that way frown.gif Doesn't look like you let it spoil your trip though 169144-ok.gif
