In my opinion its really what you are happy with, I really rate Autoglym products and have a lot of the range - I prefer it to Megs etc, but the next person will prefer something else!

Autoglym Super Resin Polish is very good! as is Ultra Deep Shine or Extra Gloss Protection 169144-ok.gif

Hi,

You certantly cant go wrong with Autoglym!! They make alot of good products but some new products can do a similar job with less fuss its what i think some might say. Like alot of things if there not "flavour of the month" they dont get spoken about too much but are probably the backbone of most UK car cleaners/detailers etc.

What are you thinking of getting?? Super Resin Polish is good. The new Aqua Wax is really really good, the glass polish is great so the spray cleaner. Bumper care is excellent so is there QD. The Custom Wheel Cleaner is one of the best i have used.

Thanks guys,

Think I'll top up on some of it then.

Geoff,

I got this list from an earlier post and have priced it up online as just over a ton. With the 3 for 2 offer by using Auto Glym I reckon I can achieve simlar results for less:

[ QUOTE ]

Some great products have already been mentioned in the thread, here's my recommendations:

Euro W mitts, Poorboy's Waffle Weave Drying Towel, Poorboy's SS&S or P21s Bodywork Conditioning Shampoo

ClearKote Vanilla Moose Glaze or Poorboy's Polish with Carnauba Blue

ClearKote Red Moose Glaze

Poorboy's EX

ClearKote Carnauba Moose Wax OR Meg's #16 OR Collinite #915.

Wheels - Poorboy's Wheel Sealant + Bold and Bright or Meg's Endurance (i usually go for the BnB though)

P21s Metal Polishing Soap

Probably your post Geoff. notworthy.gif

What do you recon? I have some minor scratches and light swirling so I recon I can deal with it all by hand. Although I have access to a power polish / buffing machine if needed.

Hi!!

Figure, i dont know what your local Halfords stocks but it think you can get the deal with Meguiars and Autoglym products.

I think an idea might be (you will have do some accounting when your in the store to make sure it all works out cheap):

AG SRP

AG EGP

If Halfords sale Aqua Wax then you will want to get that too. EGP will leave your car shiney and its probably the longest lasting protection Halfords sell. Its solvent based so is not very compatible with products before it as it tend to melt them.

You say you have a 98 S8?? I would get the Megs claybar kit too, Megs Gold Class Shampoo (get the big bottle) and then a Lambswool Mitt. You can get a drying towel in there "water magnet" from Meguiars. Autoglym have a drying towel but i dont know whats thats like.

For wheels you could get Autoglym Alloy Wheel Seal and their wheel cleaner. You might want to consider there metal polish too.

The SRP and EGP combo will do a good job at hiding your swirl marks, get some applicater pads and MF cloths as well.

The AG case looks ok but is lacking in products a bit. I think Halfords are trying to get rid of these as AG just replaced them with new cases and a different product set.

ORRRRRR!!

If they have Meguiars get this:

Megs NXT set (NXT Shampoo, Wax, Window Cleaner, Applicator, Wash Mitt). £35??

Then get Meguiars DC1 paintwork cleaner, DC2 Polish and the Megs Clay Kit.

Get some Megs supreme Shine MF cloths, water magnet, some more applicators. Then your choice of wheel cleaner and tyre dressing (Endurance lasts well the AG stuff isnt that bad) and wheel sealant).

Get some NXT spray wax and you should be a happy man. The spray wax is simply spray on when your drying the car. It keeps the NXT topped up.

As mentioned its hard to mix the AG products up with the Megs. as they work in different ways.

Ok, so if I have this right, I buy everything in this thread, pour it all into an oil drum, climb on my Garage roof, empty all over the car and drive and naibour's drive, moon the guy across the road and when I get out of prison the car will be shiny?

Wheres me credit card, halfords can stand by.

further instalments to follow.

O, and thanks for the help guys. 169144-ok.gif

Ok back from Halfords grin.gif

Not to sure I'll be welcome back! jump.gif

Decided on the products after some serious browsing and tactically planned the purchase of said items to ensure maximum savings. smile.gif In the end I bought Megs Smooth Surface Clay Kit £22.99, AG Extra Glos Protection and Super Resin Polish @ £11.99 each, AG Ultra Deep Shine @ £10.99, Megs SD @ £9.99 and AG Instant Trye Dressing @ £5.99. Got some Meg Glass Cleaner @ £7.99, an AG Finnishing Cloth @ £9.99 and a Lambs Wool Mitt @ £7.99.

The trouble started when I went to pay. I presented the most expensive three and said I want to pay for these first. Not unreasonable I though. Then the next 3, at which point the young lady sussed what I was doing and said I should put themm all through the till at once. I point out if I do that, you will deduct the 3 cheepest and this way I save more. Time for the supervisor, who comes over listens to the girl, looks at me at which point I say "I'll put them all back then". So I get my way and I save £25.97 instead of £22.97! 169144-ok.gif

Am I fiscally challenged?

No decent MF Towls; so I'll get them online.

I'll do the interior on the next trip.

Have I missed anything for the outside? (wheel cleaner, Bug remover and AG Car Shampoo)I have already.

Don't rate them at all. SRP dosn't really do anything with it's fillers. They are a pia to remove and the white dust residue they leave behind is a pain to get rid of as well. They were OK a few years ago when there was nothing else to compete against it. Now there are much better products that give better results, last longer and cost no more.

The only people that use them IMO are the AG approved valeters because they have to and those that don't know of anything else.

There are very few if any, mostly newbies, on Detailing World that would touch any AG products perhaps the Tyre Shine and the air freshner is quite good.

LOL

Thats the sole reason I won't use SRP, Fillers are not an option in my work, no matter what anyone says fillers are fillers and I'd rather do a proper job than hide defects.

But also I know some would rather use what is readily available and lets face it for 95% of the population a shiny car is all they want to see.

As mentioned earlier in this thread - its personal choice - but I dont really think Nathan is a "newbie" and he swears by SRP grin.gif

[/ QUOTE ]

Nothing against him but AG are a quick fix and he does not seem to try other products which are far better to compare with although nxt gets a mention now and then. Is he an AG approved valeter?

I am no newbie either and consider myself to be a detailer of some calibre along with several thousand on Detailing World including Mr Dalton and one or two others of equal skill and none of them use AG products. Now surely that says something.

I think, from what I remember of Nathan's earlier posts, that he went through the AutoGlym courses. But, I get the impression that he's probably moved away from using them and is using other more expensive products where justified (and where the customer is presumably prepared to pay). Saying that, I thought he'd achieved some pretty remarkable results using the AutoGlym products.

I would assume alot of "pro" guys wont use AG for big money details b/c you can buy it in the shops. That of course gives it a completly different flavour when your asking for money for the job.

The one thing i would say about the UK, is that always more more more more. Ask for more money, offer high end products with not always better results on the car. Thats not to say that you dont feel better b/c you paid that price etc.

So many forums are also dominated by flavour of the month products so its a bit of mine field for people out there.

I think for many, Autoglym products are perceived to be easy to apply and achieve decent results. Whilst I polish my car about 4 times a year, I have limited time...perhaps find a 5 hour period in which I need to wash, polish, seal and wax. I've always been a fan of Autoglym because they are familiar to me and I know I they are easy to work with. I reckon that folks away from internet forums believe that many cleaning products are unproven in their eyes...how easy are they to apply? are they compatable with each other? How durable are they? Fair play to Autoglym and Megs, they have developed products which are on the whole easy to apply, achieve decent results (better than Turtle Wax, Car Plan, Comma, Simoniz etc IMO). My only regrets with AG products is that historicaly they've created a reflective finish rather than a deep gloss. Aqual Wax is the answer to this I understand. 169144-ok.gif

If I was paying to have a detail done by a pro then I would expect any light swirls to be removed rather than filled. However, without a PC or similar, I'm happy to use products that may remove the finest of swirls but fill the rest to create a good finish.

I guess that's the difference! That said, if SRP will remove swirls if applied with a PC then I have no issues with the stuff. grin.gif

IMO AG has now been surpassed by the likes of Megs and the American products such as Poorboys for example. They are still decent items but seeing as alot of companies now stock a wide variety of other 'good' items it seems that AG is now slipping...........

I think you have to pick the best from all the ranges. Megs are fairly similar to AG in the product placement state side. ALot of their products are big sellers simply b/c where they are placed in the market. The big selling point here was deep wetter looks over the AG's reflective look.

Brands like CG who basically dump a ton of products on the market at once have a few good products. Mainly its down to saturation for them; lots of products cheaply made, en-mass. They probably want to line the websites with so many products you can hardly not choose atleast one of theirs!!

Most often the companies which produce the nicest all round products are those that keep a narrow product range but all of them extremely good. Clearkote is just run by a guy and his wife and with the exception of the car shampoo its hard to too many faults. Not that the shampoo is bad, its just the weakest product there.

Prima is another excellent range of products that have been well made.

HMM!! So many to choose from.

One top product i just got was Dominic France window cleaner, two bottles for around £11 delivered. Its natural product and leaves the windows looking great. I use AG glass polish every 6 weeks and keep the windows topped up with cleaner. DF have some nice ideas like a towel wrap for the PC cord incase you drag it accross your paintwork.

I totally agree with you there Geoff. There are a few brands out there which you rate pretty much all of the products you have tried and assume the rest is of the same calibre. Personally I love Wolfgang And Pinnacle stuff but that is not to say that everything they make is better than the rest out there.

You really do need to pick and choose between brands to get the best possible finish for sure.

I recently bought the Clearkote RMG and, whilst the packaging and labelling would not jump out at you if buying in a shop, the product is absolutely awesome IMHO. Really tempted to buy more of their stuff as and when I need it now but just hoping it comes up to the standard of the RMG!?!

Lets not also forget that some people dont rate products as they dont use them properly due to not reading the destructions and, more importantly, not all products are compatible so a really good product could prove to be ineffective due to not bonding with the previous product so to speak?

Totally agree with you last comment BPSMITH, there is a time and place for everything but they can only shine well when used correctly.

The other clearcoat products you will like are Vanila Moose which has cleaners and a light abrasive and some sealing properies. I dont know if it is luck or by design but you can mix RMG and VM together at the sametime and get excellent results. This allows the RMG to still get in to the paintwork and not be get cleaned away. This combo is named "pink moose", mix and you shall see why!!

Quick Shine, is a great QD. Yellow Moose is it like a filler product. It add depth to and warmth to soild colours while creating a smooth finish. I think that is just b/c it has a lot of fillers in it.

Carnauba Moose Wax reminds me alot of Pinnacle Souveran wax. It is a liquid but mutes metalic pop more then say Nattys. Durability is decent at 6-8 weeks and mixed with other CK products its really deep and wet.

The tyre and trim stuff is good. Not as good as Poorboys Trim Restorer but looks good on the tyres.

Pinnacle and Wolfgang are good, Detailers Pride are well worth looking at. Same stable as the other two but you get alot more product, they are mostly different products to Pinnacle and WG.

Cheers Geoff. I will take a look at more of the Clearkote stuff when I get a spare moment. Will also have to investigate Detailers Pride now too!

I am concentrating on getting the stuff I need to polish back some wheels at the moment, but once they are done I might take a punt on the Vanilla Moose quite possibly.

All,

After starting this thread and reading many others I went out and bought a range of AG and Megs from Halfords. What they didn't have in shop was any half descent applicators and polishing cloths. So I do a quick Google and come up with the Ebay site for the comapny in the sig. I duly buy a section of applicators and polishing cloths and pay by PayPal and sit back waiting for the Postman. Next day I get this in the message section of Ebay.......

Hi - many thanks for your order; it has been processed and packed and will be shipped first thing in the morning you for you.

Due to purchasing towels, this is a very rare case where you have paid more P&P than it will cost me to send - i usually make a loss on all postage. Therefore, i will be including some free gifts in your order to make up the difference.

In addition to this, i have a company policy where all UK servicemen and women receive free gifts - therefore you will receive something for this as well.

If i can be of any other assistance, please don't hesitate to ask.

Kind Regards,

Gareth

................................

Thats what I call service. I don't care if I've spent a few more shillings on the product.
