scooby_simon
Got back home and my IE is not working (but Firefox is). Re installed IE7 and it worked; but then re-booted and it's now not working again. Start it up and all looks OK; but the web page never loads up. "Just get connecting to site ..." and it never loads ! Anyone got any ideas ?

chrisan
Can you temporarily disable any software firewall that you might have running to rule that out?

chrisan
Anything obvious in Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections. There's also a LAN settings button in there too. Is it doing something odd like attempting to connect to a proxy server by any chance?
Jon
Have you got Google desktop installed? If you have go to preferences and disable indexing of web history then save preferences. That has taken about 5 machines down here. Jon.
scooby_simon
tried removing the last updates to windows (on the 9th when these problems started and now Firefox is not working either !) Re-applied the windows updates and it's still fecked. Now no web access on the desktop but can still get email....
Jon
Hi, It sounds like the TCP Stack is not happy. You could try going back to a system restore point. A new restore point is normally created by MS before installing updates. Jon.

Jon
Hi Si, If you do the following this should restore your system to a previous (not broken state) Click on “Start” > “All Programs” > “Accessories” > “System Tools” > “System Restore” A new windows will open with 2 options, “Restore my computer to an earlier time” and “Create a restore point” Select “Restore my computer to an earlier time” and then click “Next” You will now see a calendar with dates highlighted in bold blue text. Select a date you want to go back to and then click next and confirm the restore point. The computer will then reboot and should hopefully be working again when it comes back up. More info here Jon. scooby_simon
I'm thinking of Downloading IE 7 onto my laptop as an exec and then copying to CD; then copy CD onto dektop and run ? Any point in this ?????
Ritey
Maybe, all the settings are probably stored in the registry though? I'd concentrate on getting FF working again first, bound to be easier and then working out whats wrong with IE, unless FF is working again now? scooby_simon
FF not working either ! I assume it must be a prowser to network issue as Email works, as does Skype etc....
scooby_simon
Just had a message as java update was being installed that java could not continue with the proxy settings. For some reason IE NTL connection was using proxy; removed this and it's still not working.
