Hello all,

Just checking about brake discs for a MK 4 R.

I am correct in assuming that EBC do the discs and pads for this R ?? They seem to . . . . Red stuff pads too !!!

Anyone bought them or is it a 'stay away from those' moment ??

Any comments on discs and pads (replacements) welcomed.

I have grooved Tarox discs on the front with Orange Pagid pads. I was advised against "cheaper" drilled discs as they might be more prone to cracking. If they weren't factory drilled, stay away.

Drilled ECS, Porsche or Brembo discs should do the job nicely 169144-ok.gif

Not sure if EBC do replacement disks for the Mk4 R32. Try www.ebcbrakesdirect.com

Only use Red Stuff pads if you're not worried about disk wear. They're part ceramic, so wear standard disks like hell! I can vouch for the Red Stuff pads with the ECS Stage 5 as they never, ever fade, even during prolonged track-day use. I'm just about to order my third pair of front disks (they're not cheap!). Lifetime of the disks with Red Stuff pads has been about 17K miles, but they do get worked hard on track days!

ECS also do replacement floating rotor disks for the Mk4 R32. www.ecstuning.com and you can buy them via www.awesome-gti.co.uk or www.jbrperformance.co.uk

It's worth pointing out that the life of the ECS disks should be no less than other disks. As you know, I track my car a lot and I prefer fast, flowing tracks like Donington, Castle Comble and Spa. I've warped two sets of standard disks on track days, hence the shift to the ECS Stage 5 kit.

New disks and pads need to be bedded in in time for the Nurburgring and Spa trip over the bank holiday weekend... laugh.gif

If you're uprating your disks and pads for fast road use, rather than track use, then you shouldn't eat through them quite as quickly as I do.

Still bloody good fun though 169144-ok.gif

Before you ask Jimmy, the ECS kit won't be for sale when the car goes - the whole lot is going on the Scumball Scirocco so we can stop the feckin thing with the 300bhp 1.8T engine EEK2.GIF
