johnnysenna
Sorry chaps, can't be arsed to search the forum......please could someone remind me how to get the car to show me how many miles I have to go to my first service. Something about switching on the ignition (but not starting the engine) and pressing a button if I remember. TIA.
schofier
Hold down the trip reset button for a few seconds with seat belt connected/inserted/or whatever its is you do with a seat belt and with the air temp above 4 degrees celsius. Shows miles to next service for approx 5 secs and then the number of days.
Tarmac_Terrorist
Tried mine yesterday... turn on ignition but don't start the engine. Wait until the airbag light goes out then press and hold the trip mileage button.

johnnysenna
LMAO. I have just checked it now. The car has 5.5K on already. The trip computer tells me my service will be due at just 11.5K!! I must use a lighter throttle.......
petsy
sounds like your car is set to longlife service...

My first service was about 15K and second now approaching 32K miles.
johnnysenna
Oh I know it must be set to long life, I was just laughing how quickly I will need the first service. You are supposed to be able to last 20K miles before the first service aren't you?
RedRobin
I would say 'able to last' up to 2,000 miles beyond the service alert, but not a good idea to go much more. I discussed this with VW when I was trying to dovetail my Carbonio intake being fitted in the same session as my first service. This time it's the Forge DV I'm trying to dovetail fitting into the second service.
johnnysenna
I'll probably just stick it straight in when its due. I don't want any hassle with warranties.
stooH
Does anyone know if adding fresh oil to the car will extend the period the car thinks is required til the next service? I know that part of the monitoring is the degradation of the oil so if the older oil is diluted in new oil would this roll the clock back a little? Mine currently has me down for the first service at 12500 miles. Done just over 6k at the moment.
petsy
are you on longlife service?
Jack_is_Back
Does it even know the condition of the oil? I would have thought the longlife interval is based on number and length of journeys. Have you checked the oil level in 6k miles?
stooH
Yes I am on longlife service and yes I have regularly checked the oil level, still about a 1/3 of the way between min and max so am going to top up shortly. According to what I read it monitors the degradation of the oil or something like that...
petsy
I asked re-longlife as if he was on time/distance service regime then the service indicator reminder would come on towards 12 months even if he didn't do much milage. as to the original question, it didn't seem to make any difference for me.
