bazza_g
I'm in a 'bazza' situation - I've just received the first paperwork back from my cherished plate transfer so I've got the sheet that lets you get plates made up and my tax disk (only 2 weeks left) for my own plate. I've informed my insurer but currently have no V5 or insurance doc with my new reg on it. I can't tax my car online as the ref number refers to my old plate I can't go to a post office as I don't have the V5 or insurance cert with my new plate on. I can't even speak to the DVLA - called last night and 20 times today and don't even get on the call queue, did they just shut half their call centre?? Any ideas much appreciated
RedRobin
....Send in Mr T with his tank!! Incredibly frustrating and very typical. A local policewoman told me recently that she really hoped that the DVLA weren't going to be the ones managing our ID cards. Can you imagine! Ritey
Have you got a local DVLA office, we have one in Portsmouth you can go to and sort things like this out

bazza_g
[ QUOTE ] Have you got a local DVLA office, we have one in Portsmouth you can go to and sort things like this out [/ QUOTE ] I did think of that but my 'local' office is Reading (best part of 1 hour away) which has feck all parking, traffic wardens hanging around and to top it off a 1 hour wait last time I went on a weekday afternoon
techieboy
Went to the Northampton office to do much the same last week. Changed over a plate from a retention disk, surrendered my current V5 and tax disk. New disk and entitlement letter issued there and then and my new V5 has turned up this morning. That was last Thursday, 12 minute wait at DVLA local office and 7 day turnaround on the V5. Amazing!
bazza_g
Fingers crossed for some of your luck cheers - still no luck getting the DVLA on the phone
Oli
You have to tax it at the DVLA, as said in previous posts
shao_khan
Northampton is a top office - my longest wait was 20 mins once. Always helpful and quick in there.
Oli
Just dont go near the end of the month, on a friday or at lunch time, and you will be fine
Lussac
I've just started the same process and have received the same documentation and replacement tax disc, got the plates made up today at Halfrauds and fitted. I think the document refers to "Note 6" on the reverse of one of the pages where it says you will have to go to your local DVLA office to tax the vehicle if you have not yet received your new V5. lottiefox
Bazza, if phoning DVLA don't pick the tax option on the menu thingy even if its regarding tax, select the transfers or other option and then apologise profusely and blame a dodgy handset. Then they transfer you to tax pronto. Worked for me!
bazza_g
cheers - looking like another fun filled trip to the DVLA Reading - or it would be if I could drive, my knee has given up the ghost
