News_Stig
TSN News - Audi RS5 set to be launched in early 2008 with more power than the current RS4 and with magnetic dampers from the TT.
AZURES3
I need that car, shame it takes the RS models to really look and drive how they should. Lets hope it improves on the already great RS4. AZ
cruiser647
Is the A5 no bigger than a 3 Series? They seem to be pitching it that way. I thought it was 6 Series size.
mark88
Are you sure this is correct? I haven't heard a definite early 2008 date anywhere else.

[/ QUOTE ] maybe it has been brought forward like the S5 was, from the reviews the S5 is not going to cause the new M3 any problems So rollout the RS5 maybe AZ
Chav
Well thats the nicest looking pic of an A5 yet. What's the news on A5/S5/RS5 cabriolet versions?

Merlot
Will make the 4.2 R8 look vulnerable. Nice looker.
Merlot
Its interesting if DRC is being dropped. Many of us have read loads of problems RS6 owners have had with it. I wonder if the RS4 will be similarly affected?

[/ QUOTE ] I saw one last week at a dealership and it certainly is a lot smaller in the flesh than the photo, just like the 3 series. However this means it is a struggle to get in and out of the back. Interior is very nice and takes a lot from the A6 with a touch of R8, my dealer reckons. Roll on test drive in July. Paul
competiton for the M3? I thought the RS4 had that pinned down?
CarMad
I does but its always a 4 door vs Coupe battle. This would be Coupe vs Coupe, until the M3 Saloon comes out that is.

Merlot
You will probably find that when the RS5 comes out the V8 R8 will be discontinued and everyone will have to buy the V10 R8 which will list at £85k (and cost £95k with spec as a manual, £100k as a paddle shift) but will do 9s to 100 cf 10.5/10.7s for the RS5. If that's the case then they will happily release the RS5 in late 08/early 09.
Risky
I thought the RS5 would have to wait until the end of the RS6 run, thus making late 2009 more likely.
Merlot
Audi seem to be producing more RS models (and more models per se) which makes me wonder if they are going to be capable of producing two model ranges at once. Anyway I guess that the RS6 will be so expensive that it will be lower volume product than last time.
Riz
I predict that Audi AG will be expanding the Quattro GmbH production when the new custom built factory is opened. RS6 RS5 RS-TT RS3 Woooohoooo Riz
S3Rob
I think it's still possible to keep one RS at a time. RS6 - 07-08 RS5 - 08-09 R8 Targa + R8 Diesel 09-10 RS3 next chassis 10-11 (probably won't happen) TT-RS 10-11 (probably won't happen) RS4 next chassis 11-
Dave
BUT, and there's always a but! How much money does Audi actually make from it's RS line up? I imagine it is small fry in comparison to the main model series. The RS cars are designed to give a 'halo' effect to the brand, hence why we see so many s-line around. I would be very surprised if they were interested in creating new lines that produced multiple RS models.
S3Rob
Depends what they want their future direction to be I guess. Merc have an AMG at the top of almost every range, but BMW prefer to keep M Division to 2 or 3 at a time. I doubt that Audi's RS have the capacity to produce that AMG has though (even if they wanted to).
Risky
There's a marketing logic too. You want to give each 'top' model time to sell without fighting each other for sales.

I've always thought of the top line cars as like 1st class on a plane. i.e. you're paying more than it's actually "worth" for the priviledge. I've always assummed the profit on an RS model is proportionally larger than on a mainstream model.
Biffa
Maybe its getting less expensive to make RS models. There seems to be more of a crossover in technology between the models now, with more modern manufacturing techniques maybe its not such an expensive effort anymore to make an RS
