Decked
Am I right in believing that after the MK5 Ed30's are sold VW will be selling the standard GTi with the new engine/turbo with 230bhp? (same block/turbo as the Leon, S3 etc) Thanks
RedRobin
....I don't know for sure, but wouldn't that completely contradict and devalue the Ed30? Where did you hear this?
Decked
I thought I'd read it somewhere.... Possibly on here but I’m not too sure! It would make sense.... My sister has offered me her Revo'd Gti but I know what the new engine/turbo feels like once it's been remapped and it's so much better than hers so I may hold out. I'm only really thinking about it as she'd sell it cheap to me, I'm thinking of excuses not to but it!
petsy
I suspect you'll only see it in a Mk6 GTi as it would devalue both the ed30 and the upcoming pirrelli gti.
RedRobin
Judging by what little I know about your Mk4 .:R, I can see how a remapped Ed30 would be so attractive. However, I find my Stage1 Revo'd GTI has very practical driveability on the road (in spite of two 70+ speeding tickets in 8 months!). Don't forget that the GTI is not 4WD, not that you can't learn how best to drive a 300+ bhp GTI ! Out of curiosity, what's your sis wanting next? Is she Stage1 or 2 Revo? [/ QUOTE ] ....Even so, might not VW have more of an eye towards fuel economy and emissions and therefore be more likely to serve up a Turbo+Supercharger combo for the next generation? Decked
She's after and EOS...... I basically bought her the Revo map (stage 1) and I got her to get the Milltek exhaust (I neglected to tell her you could clean the original exhaust ) I'm planning on keeping the R but I quite like the MKV GTi. Didn't VW do the MKIV GTi as 150bhp, then do the Anni 180, then leave all the following GTi's 180? I may be wrong....
Simonl
No your right. + the GTI is due a facelift soon IMO. I think they'll make it standard with a few cosmetic tweaks... when the run out process begins
TheReflex
They made the 180bhp Golf MKIV Anniversary Edition GTI engine standard for the end of line GTI's but then again it wasn't pi$$ing on the Leon Cupra R and Audi S3's chips - only the standard Leon Cupra . I can't see VAG putting the 230bhp engine in standard GTI's just yet as the GTI has always been a few horses down on the top SEAT and Audi offerings. The MK VI Golf isn't due till the back end of 2008 and the GTI will be best part of a year after that. Then again ...I could be wrong!! CMC950
From what I understand, they will have the same engine, although the standard gti will only be marketed as 200bhp...
