factory33
I'm getting rid of my beloved TT (2002 225), need something bigger, I have looked at a 2003 03 S4 at a main dealer 25000mls, 1 owner, sat nav. I have been offered mine+ £10K to change. 1. Is this as good a deal as it looks 2. Would I be better off holding on until the new shape S4 price drops. 4. Should I forget the whole deal and by a newer A4 2.0TDi So many questions.....
TDiAvant
1. You need to tell us more info about the price of the S4, and how much you are getting for the TT. 2. Depends on how long you what to wait. 3. Are you looking for fuel economy, or power O Welcome to TSN
rottenbend
In answer to question 2. Both the 2003 car you looked at (a B6 model) and the "new shape" S4 (B7) will been out of date before long because a new A4 (B8) is due. The differences between the B6 model and the B7 model are almost all cosmetic. It depends whether you think you want to pay more for the George Michael goatee grill of the B7 (I'm a biased B6 owner ). The B6 has done more depreciating so will lose less money over the next 2-3 years.
Merlot
Is a 2002 TT only worth £10k? That's what the deal looks like. Seems strange to double your investment to get a car only slightly younger which isn't a huge amount faster. PS That was the serious comment. I've got an 03 S4 Avant and it is a far better car than a turbo mk1 TT.
SiAudiSline
Would agree with Merlot, a car a year newer for an extra 10K doesnt sound like a bargain. Had B6 and B7 and think its worth going for the newer model, the handling and steering are sharper on the diesel versions I have owned, and they look better. Interesting question about the A4 2.O TDI, after borrowing my sisters TT225 for a fortnight I thought my A4 tdi felt really sprightly and sharp around town when I got back in by comparison....you should have a drive in the A4 TDI170, relatively good resale and 40mpg! SPLiiX
I have the dilema.... Do I sell or keep - I'm going to keep! However, what we should all do is all keep our Audi's and that would make the price go up for used ones as their would be less on the market. (IF YOU WANT AN AUDI YOU GOT TO BEG FOR ONE)
factory33
TTs got 30000mls and books at £12000. On paper it seems like a numpty move, but, I need a 4 door car (kids, buggy etc)The S4 is fully loaded and less miles than my TT. I could stretch to the latest shape but whats the point, its almost identical but £5-6k dearer!4 doors, at least as nippy as the TT, with all the bells and whistles, its gotta be the S4. I'm more concerned about the knife point carjackings currently taking place in my area ( Manchester) Anyone got any horror stories ?

rottenbend
[ QUOTE ] I'm more concerned about the knife point carjackings currently taking place in my area ( Manchester) Anyone got any horror stories ? [/ QUOTE ] One of the advantages of the S4 is that it is stealthy (especially in black/grey/silver) and so is less likely to attract that sort of interest. Oh yeah and the S4 is a tad quicker than the TT especially in a straight line or on open roads.
Merlot
£22k is a bit steep for an 03 S4.
spikeyboy
i was about to say that Merlot. Would seem the stealer is trying to have his cake and eat it. I would say the S4 Avant is a great car for the family though just the reason i bought mine I would ask what price they are giving you part ex on the TT and then start to haggle. Lots of Audi owners are convinced their cars are stealthy... but what the hell is stealthy about a car thats says S4 on the front/back and has big exhausts? or quad exhausts? and bright chrome mirrors etc Hmm. I think people like to pretend they prefer stealthy, but really everyone likes to be noticed to a degree. </end of pyschological observations by chav>

Oh and the TT is 4 seconds slower to 100mph. That's an eternity
P_G
I wonder if at first gfalnce most of joe puiblic would think that it's just sime A4 variant. It's only on second glance that it becomes apparent it is an S4. You only know its an S4 because you associate with us S4 owners chav, you'd be surprised at the number of people who don't know what an S4 is let alone what engine / performance it has. Following the countless post on here of chrome / brushed aluminium mirrors behind hacksawed off, I'd swap the caps for body coloured also. Whilst the B7 S4 has quads, the B6 S4 has pretty standard exhausts to be fair, actually not that much larger than a 2004 1.8 T S line. You can fit downturned diesel pipes to the S4 rear boxes and then the bumper from say a 1.9 PD 130 Sport (see attachment above) to hide the exhausts: I recall seeing an S4 that had this mod on another forum. The car is then TOTALLY standard from the outside. The black S4 doorfins can be found painted on S line models. The S4 egg box grille is possibly not on S lines? The model-unique front underbumper would be the only sign of a true S4, itself more subtle than a 2004 S line 'splitter' anyway. Ian
