Rustynuts
That time of year when the broadband needs renewing, and I'd quite like to leave the pile of shite that I'm with at the moment. So it's a little complicated insofar as I'd like to go with a complete package which means I can leave BT and their line rental behind, and just have an all in one package. At the moment we have: From our isp: - unlimited broadband usage, unlimited email addresses, 2meg download speed, virtually non existent support, 50Mb webspace, hosting of my domain name tied tomy webspace. Actually, the last bit is a lie, because for the past 5 months I've not had my website hosted since they lost it,and they refuse to answer my emails regarding this issue, hence me wanting to leave. Their invoice for next year has just arrived and they want £230 for a years contract (which is about £19 per month). From BT: - Line rental only (£10.50 per month), but with callsign added on. Basically this gives me a second number on the same line for about £3.50 a month. Ths is important as the second number is my business number. Also we have caller display and call waiting. So we pay £14 per month on this. From TalkTalk: - We have option 2 which costs us about £4 a month for free evening and weekend calls. So that totals up to £37 per month on phone and broadband, plus most calls. Anyone have any recommendations as to what will cover this? The sticking point is usually the 2 phone numbers as only BT want to do this apparently.
Riz
I would be intrested in this also..... as im paying £40.00 to Bulldog for a 8mb line which no for some reason going slower than ever at around 2mb.... unlimted useage and phone line included which I never use!!!! Surely there has to be something better value for money! Riz
Chelsea Mick
I switched from a BT/Bulldog combination over six months ago to Talk Talk. With BT/Bulldog I was paying roughly £50 a month for calls/internet. I went with the Talk Talk international call plan for £24 a month all in. This includes free calls to UK landlines and most of Europe, Canada & The States all day every day. Also, as most will know, it includes free internet access while you have thier phone service. the price also includes caller ID and Call waiting. I did have to wait for the broadband service to be activated after the phone service was switched over, but as I was using Bulldog for my ISP at the time it wasn't a problem. They managed to switch my broadband without any delay as the 2 companies can arrange your Mac Code between them without too much hassle. So far Talk Talk have been great for me and I haven't had any issues with my service at all. I have heard that thier customer service can be flakey but my experience has been nothing but good. And obviously I've had a right result as it has cut my monthly bill by nearly half for phone and interweb connection My internet connection is always a rock solid 3.5mb download with around 634k upload. There is a 40gb pm fair useage policy (which applies for peak times only) but I haven't got anywhere near that. HTH
fingermouse
im also looking into this as Im currently with Nildram. ive found pipex ... http://www.pipex.co.uk/allthefacts/ or talk talk as im with them for my phone. is nildram now owned by pipex or someone else ??? as I may ring them to see if they do something.,
Paul
Nildram have been owned by Pipex for a long time now, but run independantly. If you read much on thinkbroadband.com forums its enough to put you off the lot! Im tempted to leave my BT line as it is and just get an independant ISP, most likely IDNET. cheechy
Although possibly slightly more expensive I use uk free software network (ukfsn) as an ISP. I pay just under £30 a month for an 8mb business connection with 800k upload. Look up www.ukfsn.org. I've doen the cheap internet provider thing twice in the last 14 months - never again! Fast speeds, good download limits for people who need it and good ping rates for gaming.
Rustynuts
That looks not bad actually. Judging from lack of feedback, I think I'm probably stuck with BT for the 2 numbers though, and stick with TalkTalk for calls.
