10bellys
I'm considering a 2003 RS6 avant anything I should know about. I currently have a 1997 S8 with 150k miles on and I'm thinking its time to move on. I do 20k miles a year and was getting 20/21 mpg on A roads is it likely to be similar with the RS6. Any advise greatly received.

Golfer
20/21 MPG is going to be hard to achieve, get a very comprehensive warantee. Good luck.
Markallain
Is there anyone on here who has switched from an RS6 to an RS4 (B7)? I'd also be interested to hear comments from anyone who has driven both. Is the RS6 far superior in terms of speed? and how does it compare in other respects? L73
Get one - they're great. Mines on an 03 plate with no mods and it goes like stink. Most of my miles on motorway doing 70 with the cruise on and computer says avg mpg 24. If you drive it like a hooligan though it drops to about 18 but its worth it. gizze
I think I have seen that car before, R5 plate and the bimoto wheels. Are you near Stow-on-the-Wold?

kslop sirotilc
Everyone is forgetting the enormous number of the UK C5 RS6 owners that are experiencing DRC failure and especially financial pain when it comes to replacing this set of components when usually out of warranty. Prefer C6 RS6 due to different OEM supplier e.g. Ricardo Motorsport. Got an R8 V10 which I believ doesn't benefit from this system as it has the Magnetic Fluid dampening/ride control system etc. Would be interested to meet all R8 V8, R8 V10 and RS6 V10 owners. Have some good tips and trade tricks on these particular models. Who is this Mrs Adenau person? It sounds like a Audi member of staff I used to know in Staffordshire. Mook
Welcome to Tyresmoke - not sure about that user name! You've revived an old thread here. What's your involvement with Ricardo Motorsport and Audi?
AudiPartner
Timed it well though - I was just thinking yesterday... "Perhaps I'll get an RS6 Avant". Then I woke up and realised I couldn't possibly insure it with my track record! Shame, cos for the money - WHAT A BEAST!!
Mook
Great in a straight line, but auto slosh-box and crap brakes - no thanks
cruiser647
Great in a straight line, but auto slosh-box and crap brakes - no thanks Feck that, I'd be happy with one.............OK, maybe not so happy with the fuel bills!

Dave
That'd be terrible True, back in 2003? when i had mine I was getting around 220miles on a £60/70 fill up. (and that was on a run!!)
ahankins
300-340 (of motorway/A-road) driving on a tank at about 80 quid isn't that bad. Put the pedal down and it isn't much worse than my R32. What do you expect from a bi-turbo 5.0l V10?! Was never going to be frugal! The brakes aren't what I'd call crap......I know there have been some problems, butI've not had any in 5000 miles of driving.

Chris_B
That'd be terrible Actually, I have a confession to make. With regular use of Tip mode, judicious use of the amusing 'Econ' button, a majority of journeys being 40+ miles on rural roads and a recent tript to Islay (lot of m'way cruising), I've nudged the all-time average mpg up to 18mpg! Still managed 8.9mg on a recent 20 mile backroads thrash though!
Chris_B
Oops, I saw RS6 V10 mentioned...... Oh yeah, me too, doh! Oh the C5 was a lumbering great brute in comparison. Hilarious fun with ESP off and a bit of brake-tap lift-off oversteer in tight corners in 2nd gear, but yes the brakes were pretty shabby - a 4.2 V8 A8 could keep up on the twisties easily just being being able to outbrake the RS 6, which had smoking brakes after about eight miles. I replaced the first set of discs at somethign stupid like 9000 miles!
