2.5TDi Quattro cambelt change

After making a number of inquiries and searching a fair bit on this site, I've concluded that this is one expensive car to mantain.

after getting initial quotes from audi for about £800 I decided to use and independant.

I've managed to track down and audi specalist not too far from me which used to be called audionly or is now called auto deutsch based in miles platting.

Anybody any experience of these?

They have quoted me £250 labour and £215 parts +vat so about £550 which still sounds expensive to me, what prices have other people paid for the same job on this engine?

Also what is involved in the cambelt change?

in the kit you get 2 belts, 3 pulleys and 2 bolts.

I believe it is also worth changing the water pump at the same time.

I've rang VAG parts to get a quote for the parts and was about £189 for the cambelt kit and £90 ish for the water pump.

Along with 2 new rear tyres, a service and an MOT its gonna be a very expensive month!

If I remember rightly it is quite a challenge to even get the cambelts off as they have to take a lot off the from the front of the car. I was originally quoted 800 plus vat from the cheapest Audi stealer. I wanted to keep all parts original from vagparts, the damper was expensive too. The cost for Audi to change was circa 330.

Personally I would buy the parts from vagparts and get the independant to fit and negotiate hard!

Good luck!

I am in the same quandry at the moment. Audi wanted over £800, but a indipendant garage (German car specialists) has quoted me £423 exc Vat to do the same job (Williams Automotive-Ferndown). Major saving but still silly money. He did explain that the job is a complete pain, the front bumper has to come off and getting to the bolts at the back of the engine to lock the various cams etc in place is really difficult. He also recommended changing the water pump at the same time. He did confirm that he uses all Audi parts and that if a part failes Audi will replace anything and everything to get the car going again at their cost, so can't really argue with that. Really nice and helpful guy at Williams Automotive. Quoted early £20's to late £50's to fit the RS4 ARB depending on how difficult it might be to get the old one off etc, but thought it would probably be closer to the Late £20's to do it.

oh and I need a new set of tyre for my car, so might get some after market RS6 alloys and wheels as it's not much cheaper than buying a full set of new tyres - that's how I'll justify it to the wife anyway. 2.5TDI's are not cheap to maintain as I am also finding out.

I can vouch for Gary at www.williams-automotive.com in Ferndown - he maintains our VWs and Audis. The best part of it is the fact that he genuinely gives a monkeys about doing stuff right and getting it right first time, which is more than I can say of my experience of our local Audi dealer in Poole, or another one in Stratford, where I originally bought our Allroad 2.5TDI.

Edit:

I've found the page

Audi stoke are also doing the same offer.

Is there any catch?

how can they be doing this at half the price of my local stealer and cheaper than the specalist?
