Sparky
It was a guess. I walked out of room to get a drink and came in and it was sat there waiting for me to install it. Can't have been more than 5/6 mins at most. This is what I was saying last week, download speeds for my PS3 have gone mental and everything is coming down very quickly. Sparky
Just downloading a demo, and it's coming down at about 912 KB/s.
stevie_d
Sparky> damn you mate, I'm getting no where near those speeds now
stevie_d
oh and what demo did you download?
Sparky
What demo didn't I download would be easier! I'm using UK and USA accounts, but have taken all of them now, just to see what they are like. Speeds are slow tonight though (well, back to normal 400 kb/s)
stevie_d
ah, does the trick of having a US account actually give you access to much more content?
Sparky
You get demos earlier it seems, but also I can download PS1 games for my PSP/PS3 too. They do get some games a little slower than us, but none of the big ones. There did for a while seem to be content we can't get too. Worth doing. I just used a Fire Station in the US as my registered address, so no doubt they'll wonder why they've got a ton of marketing coming to them. Oooops
stevie_d
Awesome, just signed up myself, quite a few demos I didn't have before, thanks Out of interest, what happens when I fill this HDD? Surely by changing it I'll lose everything, including saved games? And any idea what the "install other OS" is for? Ta,
Sparky
You can install Linux on your PS3! If you upgrade your disk, you'd have to copy the data into a USB drive first or using a PC copy the data from old to new.
stevie_d
Sparky> thanks for the advice mate, one more question. What advantage would Linux give me? Would it allow me to use the PS3 as a media centre? If you've got a link just direct me there and I'll read it, cheers
Sparky
Yes it would, in theory. Sony are already bringing out a media centre addition to the firmware, but no date has been set as yet. It can already scan your PC for music anyway. Linux ports of media centres have been shown off at a recent show and Sony were aware of it, but I'd not go down that route just yet mate. I'll see if I can find the old links I saw a month or two ago.
stevie_d
Sparky> you're a true saint, ta Having the PS3 as a media centre will go some way to off-setting that price
