Porsche 996 rear seats and children ?

Am considering options for change of car that would allow me to sell wifes 4x4 and for me to have a porsche and the wife to keep my A6 avant. I'm thinking a boxster is no good as I need the ability to put 4 people in both cars.....so I think a 996 is what I need (and can afford).

But...are the rear seats on a 996 any good for children if they ought to be on booster seats (by law??) ?...or do the rear seats qualify as booster seats already ( as I recall someone saying the mk1 TT seats do).

If they don't, is there room for a 5 year old to get in the back on a booster seat (indeed is there a booster seat to fit) with a 6'2" driver in the front ?)

Lastly...assuming the above is favourable ...what are the thoughts on a 996 circa 1998 -2000 at around the £20K mark ?....am I deluding myself this car could be a daily driver at this price ?

Thanks..

25k seems to be the starting price for decent 3.4s with mileages no further than 60k backed by FPSH. There are scores available cheaper, but they will be lhd, imports, tip, ocean green / guards red / burgundy, lack FPSH (or a decent independent), savanah leather etc.

Depends what you want. Personally I'd never run one as a daily driver, hence I'd stretch a bit deeper. In your situation though I agree it is pointless paying top money for a showroom clean low miler if you are going to use it every single day. On the other hand, finding a decent one for 20k is going to take lots of seaching unless you want to compromise on the above pointers.

Reference booster seats, I cannot possibly see how you are going to fit a booster in between the wheel arches and the gearbox! Many a 'Porsche Daddy' has boosted the seat with towels though to keep their boys comfy. Not sure on the legality of this though.

Why not? A 996 with full service history would be fine to use daily. (My business partner did so for 2 yrs) I dont get this idea of yours Ian, you dont even use your 205 GTi daily, cars are for driving mate 169144-ok.gif

If you actually read my post you will see I never questioned this! Comfortable capable machines for sure. Was trying to say was that 20k will only get something tired, high mileage and odd-spec. *I* would spend an extra 5k and get a really decent one instead of compromising!

PS. The 205 GTi stays in the garage during the week as I don't need it for work.

Nicknick, re your original question. There's plenty of room in the rear of a 996 for small children. There are a few child seats that fit, but I'm not sure about boosters only, so your best to try a few. My little boy had plenty of room in my C4S.
