Guys,

What issues would there be in fitting this from a 2000 model to my 1998 S8?

Audi A8/S8 dash unit for double din unit with climate

Its the double din fitting I'm after. What I am thinking of is to keep my standard radio and add a motorized touch screen above for the PC.

Why not just replace the radio with a unit that has a video in. then if you make the pc with video out, it will all come thru the same screen anyway.

If you look on ebay, you can now buy units that have Radio, TV, DVD , Bluetooth etc etc all in one unit, you can get them with flip out screens, or with just built in screens in the unit, but they are all single DIN size.

For example, i have just fitted one of these to my father inlaws Rover Rover, so he now can play ANY cd format, Video format, DVD's , Now Has TV in the car to, its a radio, has USB in etc etc etc, and i must say, if i had a Non-facelift A8, one of these would be in it in no time.

Prior to all this mucking around with solar roofs and breaking cars, I would have said stay clear, but now I'm not so sure if its that difficult. Extending some connectors would be the best case scenario, as you'll need to get the heated seat and heated rear screen connectors down to the climate control level from up above where they are now. There may be some problems with control buttons, eg PDC which you wont currently have.

Physically, I'm pretty sure it will fit. 4 allen bolts, 2 either side and the 2 up top under the top vents.

There are extreme similatities between the pre facelift and facelift climate control connections, even though they look cosmetically different. 5 mulitplug connectors, and the solar roof output is pin A14 in both cases at least, which is a good sign...

Youre biggest problem maybe is that it doesnt give you a true square double din gap, its sloping either side, and if you're going to fit regular din kit in there, you'll need to fill, which might look really weird.

Incidently, I dealt with this seller a couple of years back, seemed a real nice guy, big A8 enthusiast. He had a 2.8 quattro sport at the time, with S8 rims on. Looked really nice, but he was looking to upgrade back then....

And having said all of that, I agree with Nick - just get a single Din 'all in one' unit with pop out screen. thats what I did in my pre-facelift, and it worked very well. Total integration with the Bose, and existing wiring without issues and relitively simple install.

It was just a thought. I Just want to maintain the current capabilities of my Radio and ad the PC in. If I can find a way to wire in the SatNav 1 voice into the PC, the rest I 'think' I can handle. I will just replace the radio with a pop out screen I got off the intraweb.

I will use a pair of LOCs to down amp the output from the on board amp, put it through the PC sound card via the CDRom connector and then into the amps and Crossover to give 5.1 sound.

Just need to work out how to do this (the SatNav Voice). If the phone won't integrate then its a Bluetooth via the PC which is easy. Of course if I get a PC Navigation Package the SatNav 1 becomes redundant; anyone know of a package that is as good as TomTom and allows overlays of Speed cameras etc?

Last but not least I want to be able to return it all to factory spec when I sell the car and get the next S8.

Any help appreciated. I will post as I proceed. 169144-ok.gif
