Tizzy
So had been over at a friend's place out in the sticks, at their Le Mans party. Left about 02:00 and drove back home, had to drop off a mate on the way so went through Lincoln and then out to his village. As I was on the main A road into the village I spied a marked Skoda Octavia (diesel panda) coming in the opposite direction. I wasn't speeding and he drove on past, so thought nothing of it. Carried on a bit further and saw his lights re-appear behind me, closing fast - thought "Here we go - breath test time" (which as I'd only had one beer several hours before would have been fine). Anyway he follows me into the village, but doesn't stop me, I turn right into my mates driveway to drop him off which clearly flummoxes them a little. As I reverse out of Phil's drive, I see them tucked in a little down the road (muppets still have their lights on, so easy to spot), as I carry on in the direction of home, they then zoom up behind me again and follow me through the village. By this time I'm just about to pull over voluntarily and ask them what they think they're up to, but just before I do that on come the blue-lights and a big red stop sign appears in the front screen. Pull over immediately, jump out the car before they do and stand by the back of my car waiting for them. Am greeted by two very friendly local cops who immediately say "Nothing to worry about Sir". I'm still expecting a breath test, but he's clearly not interested in that They ask whose car it is, "Company car" I reply and then who the insurance is with "ALD Automotive Fleet" I reply. Now to the interesting bit - it transpires that they stopped me because there is gang of burgulars driving about in Lincolnshire and Norfolk driving high-powered dark coloured RS4's & BMW's. They'd seen the twin exhausts on my (not very fast) 2.0T Avant and thought it might be an RS4 (not too hot on their Audi recognition then). They were very pleasant and I was back on my way within 5 minutes. However if you've got an S4/RS4/335/M5 etc. in Lincs or Norfolk then be watchful, these guys are stealing dark coloured cars of this type, always estates apparently and blasting about the countryside in them in the early hours....... garcon magnifique
That's the kind of pull I always appreciate... you never know it could be your (stolen) car they stop one day.
Craigieboy
Too true, although we dont want everyone with a nice/performance car to be stopped constantly, its nice to see the police on the lookout like this.
