Howdy A4 experts (main be joining this area soon!)

I am looking at a 140bhp S-Line model, and just want to know are there any areas of concern I should be looking out for? On the search I picked up something about the PAS and Clutch? are these problems area's?

And can anybody confirm roughly the costs paid for 20k/40k Variable servicing?

I came from a 320d & have been very pleased with mine.

Yes I do have slight clutch judder when cold & PAS groan on full left lock, but both I have been assured will be attended to.

18k under its belt & it is getting quicker. It is without a doubt quicker than the 320 off the mark & at pick up in 5th & 6th once rolling.

MPG is around 40-43ish which is not as good the 320 which would achieve 47 most of the time.

As JimP mentioned build is way way above BMW.

I am sure you will enjoy.

Thanks for all the replies so far.

I've also found that the car doesn't have a front passenger airbag de-activation switch/option.

Can the passenger airbag be electonically de-activated by an Audi dealer and/or can this switch/option be retro fitted by them?

Has anyone had any experience of having this done and what sort of cost is involved?

Jimp and pitch both mentioned groan from the power steering on left lock. Is the guys at the stealers know about this as i did notice something very slight on my new s-line but thought nothing of it.

Let me know.

Rich.

my local didn't until I told them all that I had leant on TSN. they then were a bit more helpful and have now acknowledged the problem. first service in a couple weeks and they are addressing the problem. Search TSN for more info. I have had a lot of help from members.

I have checked out some of the previous threads. It seems that there have been a few previous instances of the same low speed groaning from the p.a.s. however it appears that the suggested replacement steering return hose may not be the thing that solves it. A couple of senior techies have said that these have been fitted, but they havent always worked.

Anybody got any more feedback??

This is brand spanking S-line Special edition with 500 miles so i am a little disappointed to have an issue already.

cheers guys

Rich.

will check the PAS scenario, when i go back to check the car

any thoughts on the passenger airbag de-act?

spoke to one audi dealer who said yes no problem, parts about £50, but best part of over 2 hours labour, where as another said no-way, they cannot change from manufactuers specification?

I would have though with the all the electronic chips these cars have it would have been as simple as to plug onto a computer and de-activate the passener airbag?

any thoughts? (may post as a seperate post)

I only talked to him briefly about it.I really should take the car in to be checked like yours.

How you finding the engine,Only mines seems to be flat upto 1800 then the turbo kicks in and it goes.Had my old 130 chipped and will probably get this done when the tuners have sorted out the dpf

issue.

Engine is o.k. but like yours it 'goes' after the initially slow pick up. I had an a3 sportback 140 last year and that was similar.

I have been checking the pas issue out on another site and one response from an audi techie says that there is a modified pas return hose to sort this issue and on only one of the occasions he knows about did it not work. He mentioned that this was also a problem on some of the last generation a4's aswell.

Let me know how you get on.

Rich.

It might be called a turbo but theres plenty of lag on the 170

compared to the 130,with my 130 chipped it picked up quicker than the 170,I'm hoping the tuners can alter the boost settings to get rid of the lag.I'm often driving in 5th instead of sixth at aroung 60ish becaues of this.
