Roswell
Guys, Am really considering trading in my TDI for the new S3. The A3 will be 2 years old in October by which time I will still have about £6.5k of outstanding finance. Considering the value of my exisiting car now or in a year's time, when would be the best time to go for it? Just looking for your opinions on this one. Thanks, Roswell
d3fy
What is the value of your car?
Roswell
To be honest d3fy I have no idea, hence the reason I'm asking for opinions. Hey, did we not buy our cars at the same time from Danny at Leicester?!
Roswell
UPDATE! Just had word back from Danny. He'll take my A3 and sell me my spec of S3 (Priced at £28900) for £11244. Oh man I'm itching to go for it! What do you all think........if I kept the A3 another year, would it make that much of a difference to the residual value of my A3?? Opinions please!!! Thanks again. edo
so assuming you are paying list for the S3, he is valuing your A3 at 17,656. How many miles has it done? Search for similar 55 TDI s-lines on autotrader and see how it compares?
edo
It doesnt seem toooooo bad a deal, all depends if you have 11k burning a hole. once your car is 3 I would expect the dealer owuld have less interest in taking it to resell. Also your car is saleable privately as it still has a year of warranty. Stick it on pistonheads and see how you get on. You are buying at the top of the market for S3's with little discount so you WILL lose more - not least because it is a more expensive car... But dont forget the fun factor. Keep in mind 11k could get you a fun weekend toy too....

edo
Ok, so this about what the dealer will market your car at, so what he is offering gives him margin to make some money from your part ex (not loads, but some) and obvioulsy the profit in the S3.... you could probably reduce the "cost to change" by 2k by selling privately and negotiating a small discount on the S3 with cash.. You could also go back and ask him to sharpen his pencil.. 2005 55 Reg Audi A3 1968 cc TDI S Line 5 Doors, Automatic, Hatchback, Diesel, 18,409 miles, Red, 1 Owner(s), Climate Control,Alarm,Central Locking,Electric Sunroof,Electric Door Mirrors,Alloy Wheels,CD Player,Adjustable Steering Column,Airbag - Driver,ABS,Locking Wheel Nuts,Immobiliser,Front Fog Lights,Heated Mirrors,On Board Computer,Airbag - Passenger,Airbag - Side,Remote Central Locking,Smokers Kit,Traction Control,Sport Suspension,Rear Washer/Wiper,Sports Steering Wheel,Power Steering,Electronic Stability Programme,Radio,Height Adjustable Driver Seat,Electric Windows - Front,Panoramic Sunroof. £19,990. Roswell
Thanks for your input edowen. Gonna see what the dealers up here in Scotland offer, although I don't hold out much hope for them!! I might go down the Pistonheads or Autotrader route as you suggest.
