safety69
I have a 8l 1.6 1997 A3, and its struggling to pull from 60 onwards. I have tried vag-com and no faults occurred. I changed the Air Mass Meter and still it remains the same. I thought it could maybe be a blocked exhaust, but the Cat is only a year old, and the rest is a stainless steel remus system. Could it still be this how can i tell? Also another possibility is that the fuel filter is blocked, but the bottom end speed and pick up is fine. Could anyone suggest what else could be the problem. safety69
Most times when i accelerate, you can hear some clicking noises coming from the Cat, could it be that the Cat is faulty causing a drop in performance?
Tobes49
Just get someone to rev the car up and hold your hand by the exhaust pipe, Then compare to another car and see if there is any major difference?
safety69
tried it and seems fine, comparing it to a 1.6 focus. the clicking noise could this be the lamda, and would the lamba show a fault?
safety69
In 4th gear for example will only hit 4500 rpm at 80 mph, and its not as quick as it used to be at getting there. Just would like some ideas of what could cause it, so i can at least suggest some problems to the garage.
Tobes49
[ QUOTE ] tried it and seems fine, comparing it to a 1.6 focus. the clicking noise could this be the lamda, and would the lamba show a fault? [/ QUOTE ] The lambda shouldn't make a clicking noise and have never seen one do this, I think you need to get the ECU scanned to see what faults are stored, Try the VAG-COM section of TS
safety69
Thanks for your help Tobes49, I have tried VAG-COM and no faults show. I was reading about non original catalytic converters and that the welds fracture. Last year i had one fitted and it does seem to make more noise than it used to, could it be reducing back pressure, causing the performance drop?
