zerologic
Ok I'm planning to have a day of detailing next week and wanted a bit of advice on my technique! Wheels with Muc off cleaner. Wash - Megs NXT car wash - Wool mit, 2 buckets etc. Clay - Megs Quick clay kit (never used clay before so is this a good kit for a newbie clayer?) Re-wash (is this nessessary?) Dry with a waffle weave Wax - Megs NXT tech wax - on with a pad of with a microfibre Glass - Megs NXT glass cleaner. Tyres - Megs Endurance tyre gel. So can you guys recomend me a product that will imporve my results or make them last longer between washes. I was thinking something to go before or after the megs nxt wax. I don't want to replace any of the above products as i already have them just want to add to my increasing box of bottles I'm about to order the Clay kit from Elite and wanted to get something else too. What do you recomend? And does elite still do a TSN discount?? Oh it doesn't have to be Megs, i just have a lot of that as i got a gift pack a while back and it was on 3 4 2 in halfrauds recently! Cheers people
drpellypo
Wash bit fine - if you don't have a clay already don't get the megs - get the Sonus green which is much better. You might want to look at a glaze or sealant, perhaps Chemical Guys EZ or Chemical Guys all-in-one. Then wax on top of that. Use an applicator to put the wax on. NXT wax doesn't last that long. But you need to spend a fair bit more money to get real durability.
zerologic
Thanks for the advice doc... with the sonus green clay what Should i get as a lube? I know the NXT wax isn't great but it came as a gift pack for a present so i can't complain! I was going to get a pack of the terry applicator pads from elite... will these be ok for the glaze / sealant and my existing wax? (one for each product of course). How long should i leave it after applying the glaze / sealant before i put on a coat of he wax?
JonnyGTi
For durability you could use Collinite 476 - and it's less than £20. It will last ages and is a great winter wax....very popular on Detailing World with fantastic beading.
jediknight83
sounds fine in general.. not sure about mucoff as wheel cleaner as ive not used it.. but aslong as its not too harsh you should be fine. Pre spray your car down as much as possible before shampooing.. you dont want to go moving all that dirt round on the paint and causing damage megs quick clay is fine. i used to use it before sonus green. Between the clay and the wax i would definately use a pre wax as i dont think the nxt wax has any cleaners in it. Something like Autoglym super resin is a great product. It will clean and mildly polish the paint leaving the best possible finish for the wax.
zerologic
the muc off is real gentle stuff, used to just use it on my bike but when my last lot of wheel cleaner ran out i started using it on the car. Works well. I normally take the car to the local jet wash and give it a good blast with that before going home to wash it proper. Is Autoglym SRP fairly idiot proof? I don't want anything to techical to use. I like the sound of the 476 and have seen some nice results on here from others. But while i still have a bottle of Megs wax that one will have to wait until i run out.
ahaydock
Sounds OK, I would second the Sonus Green and use some Megs QD (you could get some Last Touch as that stuff is great for loads of things) for lube. SRP is really easy to use - just apply with a foam pad or something similar - work in and then buff off with a MF. I wouls also consider a Glaze such as CG EZ Creme then wax on top. Regarding wax Colly 476/915 is great stuff and I am really impressed with Vic Concours, Dodo Green and CG 50/50 for the price you pay - not as durable as Colly but all give a better finish (not that there is a problem with the finish from Colly) - so depends on how often you can re-apply? drpellypo
Nathan - I've found the megs clay really awful compared to the sonus, but I guess that's probably me! Certainly the Sonus was a lot easier to use and seemed to pull much more off the paintwork.
zerologic
OK i had a nice box of goodies come thru in the post this morning! before i start (when we finally get some decent weather??) I've just got a couple more questions.. Do i need to dry after the first wash before the clay or just leave the car wet? Do i need to wash after the clay? I got some SRP so will do that after the clay and before the Megs NXT wax. Next month i think i will get some Colly as i don't get the chance to re-apply that often. Now when is this rain going stop ?

zerologic
Made an early start today with this little lot... and something that looked a lot like this... didn't actually take any befores so that one is from earlier in the week as i wanted to crack on while the weather was good. 5 hours and plently of coffee and elbow grease later I'm left with this and pretty pleased with my work! I was amazed at how mush easier it was to remove the polish / wax after claying it for the first time. Claying was not as bad as i expected and when i got into the swing of it it didn't take too long! I'm glad i cut the bar in 3 as i managed to drop one bit but it was fairly dirty anyway. And that was just from the drivers door
