Jo308
Hi Everyone! Looking to buy an A3 Quattro later this year in place of my TT. Quite interested in the 170 TDi as it gives much better economy for only slightly lower 0-60 and top speed times than the V6 or 2.0 TFSi. Anyone here driving the 170 quattro? Thanks, jo
CarMad
Hi and Welcome to Tyresmoke. There are quite a few people who are driving 170 Quattros have a search and you should find lots of info. Seems its a good engine though nothing like as smooth as the Petrols obviously. If you want a review on the 2.0T FSI thants in the Sportback click the link below for my review. ahaydock
I haven't driven the Quattro but was impressed with the non-Quattro, compared to both my re-mapped A3 and my old 225 TT.
Jo308
Thanks for the welsome...and the links. i had searched the forum for 170 quattro but obviously these posts didn't show up. Seems like the 170 is a good engine, but not quite as smooth as the petrol turbos. DSG is getting tempting though...... Jo
edo
only problem is dsg (s-tronic) cant be had with Quattro on the A3. Having had Quattro (S4,A8,TT) before, I agonised myself, but decided the smoothness and sheer "suitbility" of DSG to the torquey diesel made me go DSG over Quattro. Traction really isnt an issue, and I drive pretty hard when I am having fun. Remember Quattro adds weight and doesnt improve grip of handling, only traction... Jo308
Only A3 model to have the quattro and s-tronic is the V6...which makes that a very tempting option!
maersk
Quattro is not everything, been there done that. (nice though)
Jo308
[ QUOTE ] Quattro is not everything, been there done that. (nice though) [/ QUOTE ] Indeed, but given that I'm going to be moving to a hilly region of Germany with plenty of snow in winter, it might make sense.... edo
When the snow comes out, you still wont stop any better, and it is all crap with big tyres on!
maersk
Spindly tyres rule on snow - and about 55 bhp and no torque. A Citroen AX Debut then......................................
