sidicks
Already posted on cpuSmoke.net !! ------------------------------------------------------------ Hi chaps - quick question for you experts: Last year I bought my dad a Dell Dimension 100 desktop computer, but for some reason, I neglected to upgrade the DVD Rom drive to DVD RW and so he is unable to create DVDs. Is there a CD / DVD RW unit that I can buy that will replace the existing unit, or alternatively should I get an external DVD RW drive instead (presumably connected by USB)?? Any idea on costs - this is for ocassional use, so I want to keep the costs down !!? Much appreciated! Regards Sidicks
Gren
Am no expert on desktops (always had a laptop) but an internal drive should be easy to find and should be far cheaper. These things usually are a standard size and have standard connectors.
Drinks
I've certainly done a straight swap on my desktop before now, just a case of pulling the connectors out of one and into the other and then XP hopefully spots the new hardware when you turn the power back on.I've got something along the lines of this one. linky Don't know anything about this particular drive just to give you an idea of what should be ok for occasional use. Comes with software, probably nero too.
Jon
Yep, dead easy to do, should cost £20-£30 depending where you go.
