VW Golf GT TDI 115 Air Con

Recommended Posts

Have got a problem, all of a sudden, with the coolant on my Golf. Had the Air Con on for a few hours yesterday and all was fine but this morning I've got in it and after a few minutes, with the air con off, all I can smell is the refrigerant, that amonia smell. You can smell it with all of the air off and when it is on my god it is knock out strength. Needless to say it can't be driven. Any ideas of suggestions O Knowledgable Ones??? Please???

You need to get your aircon professionally cleaned and checked asap. There is possibly a crack in one of the pipes.

Whatever you do, don't get it on your hands (or any other part of your body). It's evil.

If you're in the AA or RAC, get it recovered to your local dealer/VW specialist to be fixed, then get the aircon flushed and re-charged.

Thanks, I dropped it off at the VW specialist and he said that he would take a lookand give me a call. Now I've just got everything crossed in the hope that he doesn't say that wants my on remaining arm and leg, he took the others when I had a major service + cambelt +other bits at christmas.

What would a general sort of price be, ball park figure? Any ideas?

Well just picked up the car, he said that it was a build up of bacteria and that I should use the air con in the winter months with the heat on just to keep it clean. He gave it a good cleaning and said not to worry about paying for it! How often do you get that? I'm stunned, he even washed and hoovered the car for me! He'll definately be seeing my custom again!
