Vertigo1
Need a VAG-COM for a few weeks to try and track down a recurring issue I have but don't really need it for anything else and am by no means certain it will help with this issue so I'm loathe to buy one outright. Also, whilst my A3 will work with the "basic" CAN-only USB cable, am I right in thinking that you need the full "HEX" one to do all the real-time recording of sensor outputs and so on? As this is the data I need to record, that makes it even more expensive

Vertigo1
[ QUOTE ] Mind explaining your issue? [/ QUOTE ] Basically excessive noise on part throttle and stuttery acceleration. This thread goes into more detail: http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/showthread.php?t=37777 [ QUOTE ] No, doesn't matter if you use Micro-CAN or HEX+CAN hardware - both support real time data logging. Rustynuts
I'd take a guess that the DPF is responsible. Every so often they have to regenerate or burn off residue [?], and the car becomes a tractor for a while when it does it.
Vertigo1
When you say the car "becomes a tractor", are you guessing or do you have some info to support this? (Not being aggressive or challenging here, honestly want to know) Someone in the thread I linked to said they'd had a similar issue (although they had DIS warnings, most of us do not) and it was traced to a faulty DPF sensor. I think it's possible that the tractor noises and stuttery acceleration are a normal by-product of the "forced" regeneration process but this process should only be required if a lot of urban driving is done without any long high-speed blasts to clear it out. I'm suspecting that the sensor is telling the engine management that the DPF needs regenerating when in fact it doesn't, thus the noise and stuttering. If you have any info that supports the noise being a result of the regeneration process this would seem to support the theory.
