jettadeluxe
My A8 is telling me its due for a 170k service, anyone have any recommendations for an Audi competant garage in/around Hants/Surrey border, or SE M25 area? Thanks!
NickGUK
Don't trust anyone, find out what needs to be done and if your quite happy to tinker with cars, then do it yourself and save the labour charges. Theres plenty of tech help around on the net + all the guys here should you need advice
Gadgeteer
If you don't mind driving to SW London you could try Master Techs in Morden. I've only used them once but they didn't screw up so thats a 100% success rate! They are ex Audi/VW trained techs but have set up on their own so the hourly rate is more reasonable. Ska
Cant remember what the 170k service involves but if its changing plugs/oil/filters etc. then I'd do it myself as well. Takes me about a couple of hours to do but well worth it as I go around looking for any other possible signs of concern and a quick clean up while I'm at it in those hard to reach places. jettadeluxe
Cambelt and tensioners were done at 160k, so I don't have to worry about anything major for a while, guess I'll just crack into the normal stuff myself! How do I reset the Service Light on the Odometer?
thenamesross
I half inched this off audiworld. There is a way to do it without vagcom but cant find the procedure. Will have another look. Reset with VAG-COM yourself and save $100: 1995-1997 (and maybe part of 98): [select] [17 - Instruments] [Adaptation - 10] Enter the correct channel from the list below in "Channel Number" [Read] The "Stored Value" is the current value for that channel. Enter the "New" value of from the list below. [Test] [save] Channel 05 should be the distance until the next Oil Service. It is in thousands of kilometers. Let's say you want the Oil Service light to come on in 5000 miles. That would be 8000 km. Put the value 8 into channel 05. The "standard value" used by the US dealers would be 12 (7500 miles). Channel 06 should be the distance until the next In-1 Service. Same units as above. Standard value would be 24 (15,000 miles). Channel 07 should be the time until the next In-1. In-1 lights up based on time or distance, whichever comes first. This is in 10's of days. Standard value would be 36 for 360 days. Channel 08 would be time until the next In-2. In-2 is based strictly on time. Standard value is 72 for 720 days (about two years).
thenamesross
Nope, was thinking of my A4. The A8 has to be done with vagcom as above. Needs to be a registered version too (already tried it....)
