Hi all,

My new Golf Ed30 will be arriving in the next week or two ECLIPSe.gif

What waxes and sealants do you recommend for the bodywork and wheels to give it the max protection - I'll need it to last at least a month. tongue.gif

Also, do you think it's worth asking the dealer not to clean it, and do it all myself? If so, what should I use?

Thanks in advance, I come to you for expert advice 169144-ok.gifnotworthy.gif

Defo ask them not to clean it. I would then either consider a pro-detail then focus on keeping the finish nice. Or if you feel comfortable do it all yourself, but as to what products to use depends on your time, budget, hand or machine polish and the finish you want?

Picked up my new S-Line at the beginning of the month and asked the dealer not to clean it.

Was shocked at the amount of brown sticky residue all over the car that would only come off with a clay bar. (No wonder the dealer make a mess of the paint with the elbow grease needed to get the stuff off). Bloody hard work but pleased I did it….

Thanks Guys,

I thought you would probably advise me not to let them clean it!

It would all be done by hand, so I want to keep the finish pristine.

Budget for all the necessary waxes etc is about £100, but as there is such a bewildering array of products I want to make sure I get good ones that are tough and will last!

Please keep the advice coming....

Thanks

Mate - your budget may well start at £100, but mark my words, it'll soon go up! Have you been on detailingworld.co.uk? Don't, if you like your cash. Do, if you want your car to look stunning.

Very true LOL! What colour is it and what sort of finish are you after?

For me by had I would be thinking about 2 buckets, 1 grit guard (for the rinse bucket), a lambswool mit, and waffle weave drying towel. Then some Megs Last Touch for QD, for polsih by hand it would be AG SPR, then a glaze like CG EZ Creme or Megs #7 and wax Victoria Concours is great as is CG 50/50 and Dodo Green, or if you want something more durable Collinite 915/746 - depends on how often you want to wax it? Some Megs Endurance Tyre Gel for the tyres and then a few MFs and foam app pads to apply all the aobve with.

If you fancy a sealant as well the CG Blitz is great and works well with the CG EZ Creme Glaze.

Some great suggestions there beerchug.gif

It's solid black - it'll be difficult to keep clean I know smashfreakB.gif

As for finish, I'm not really into the ultra shiny wet look, I like a bit more warmth. I'll probably only wax it every couple of months, that's why I want the tuff stuff blush.gif

Will just want to give it a quick wash in between and want to get great results with little effort NONO3.GIF

Looking for more ideas for great products not necessarily available from Helfrauds...

Thanks guys bowdown.gif

Yep, Black is a hard colour to keep clean, but a good one. If it were me this is what I would do:

Get your self a Gilmour Foam Gun or an AB Foam Lance (if you have a pressure washer)and use some AB Super Snow Foam mixed with Chem Guys Maxi Suds II for a pre-wash.

Then use the two bucket method with a grit guard in the rinse bucket and wash with Maxi Suds II and a lambswool mit.

Dry with a waffle weave towel and use some QD (I would suggest Megs Last Tocuh) for a lube and to help bring back the shine.

Dress tyres with Megs Endurnace Gel or GC New Look Gel.

That would be a good weekly wash, oh and dont forget to wash the wheels with a different brush and bucket.

Regarding wax if you want the tuff stuff I would recommend Collinite 915 - good finish and very durable. Apply two coats 24hrs apart for ultimate durability and to ensure even coverage.

You may also want to polish it with some Auto Glym SRP before the wax as well.

If you are not after the ultra shiny wet look then maybe a Glaze isn't for you.

Hope that helps.
