SheWoolf
Hi, I have a 2003 318ise and it's been cutting out while I'm driving. It makes a high pitched beep then the engine just stops. It will re-start but only after 20/30 mins. It's happend 3 times in the last week!! This is happening while the engine isn't particularly hot A few people have suggested it might be the cam shaft sensor or the crank sensor. I'm hoping to avoid BMW costs which are £54+VAT for half an hour of just diagnosis. Does anybody know anywhere in North West London where I can take it for correct diagnosis and repair? AOCAL
Hi SheWoolf Did you manage to fix this? I have a very similar problem and my car is still under the Approved Used Car warranty. http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?f=4&t=52718
AGI
If this happens again why don't you remove the cover and reach the fuel rail on which is a little valve. Remove the valve cover take a pen, get somebody to start cranking the motor while you press on the valve. If there is fuel and there is sufficient fuel pressure, you sould get a bit of a splash. If not, then this is either your fuel pump or your fuel pump relay which sits in the E-box (green relay). Another thing you may do if you're handy is a spark test to check whether the DME is alive as the DME may be overheating hence the shut down. Let me know how you go.
