sjuggins
Guys, I'm going through the dilemma of thinking about selling my MkIV R32 and was wondering what you lot think it could be worth? Spec wise it's :- 5 Door (Black) 2003 53 Reg 42k Miles (Full VW Service History) Full Leather DSP Stereo Electric Sunroof milltek Exhaust Carbonio Revo HPA Shortshift She still has about 4 months VW warranty left on her as well from when I got it last year. Do you think I'm better off selling the car as standard and selling the mods seperately, or sell it to an enthusiast as it is? Thanks in advance. Mook
Yes, sell the mods separately - you'll get more of your original money back. You'll also have more problems selling a modified car, simply because some people may shy away from it. The June Glasses guide says £15,950 from a dealer, £13,950 part-ex in A1 condition. The extras will make zip all difference to the value - it'll just make it easier to sell. HTH
RFredR32
I agree with Mook, as he had already advised me to do the same. Sell the parts seperate as Mook has recently done. As for Glasses guide the part ex price is what the dealer is looking to steal it off you for, so that he can sell it for £15950 less his reconditioning costs warranty etc. and get a tidy profit! If it was me i would work somewhere in between the two prices. Keep us posted Thats my 2 cents worth anyway
sjuggins
Thanks for the advice guys. Spoke to a VW dealer today and they reckon it's only worth £12,500 - £13,000 (P/X) max! I asked why and they said because of the owners (I'm the 4th), the first owner was a lease company and then VW (so I've been told) and then the first private owner was the last owner. Would a car having that many owners put you off? Personally it wouldn't for me as long as the history is nice and comprehensive as mine is. Cheers again. Soulboy
Thay are just trying it on a bit IMO. If it wasn't the number of owners, it would be the colour, number of doors etc etc. Just remember that their job is to try and sell you a car for as much as possible and give you as little as possible for yours, so they will always look for anything. When I sold my mk4, they said it was the fact that it didnt have leather. so I sold it privately and screwed them on the new one.
RFredR32
Im the 6th owner on my car, HPI everything checked out OK to be honest with this type of car you are likely to get a few owners, as they have been bought as second car or a toy. As an insider soulboy is right they will try and de value your car as much as possible, so that they can stick it on there forecourt or showroom and make a grand or two on it. Sell it privately and as above screw the dealer down discount wise on the new one Best of luck
Oatz
I was the fifth owner of my old 03 R32 (bought it in November 05 and sold it in Feb of this year) and to be honest I bought it for circa. £1K less and therefore sold it for circa. £1k less due to this very reason. Before buying the car I asked for peoples advise on the high number of owners and it was a bit of a mixed bag, with some saying they would steer clear and others saying as long as it's in good condition etc. In fact mine was in excellent condition when compared to other one/two owner vehicles I rejected prior to purchasing mine. It boils down to supply and demand and I personally think it will put people slightly off as there are plenty of low owner R32's available and therefore the price should reflect this. As long as you didn't pay over the odds for it in the first place then it's all relative in the long run
sjuggins
Thanks again for all the advice and info, it's greatly appreciated. Right, I've done some investigating as I wasn't happy with what the garage said. I looked through my documents last night and my V5 says I'm the 4th owner, however according to the service records I'm the 3rd?? So I phoned VW customer services this morning and it turns out the dealer that sold the car to the previous owner, registered it as "un-owned" 3 weeks after he purchased it. Apparently a dealer will only do this in the event of death! So now I'm waiting for VW to phone the dealer and confirm what's happened so I can get the logbook changed (if possible) to show me as the 3rd owner or get a letter from VW confirming it was registered as un-owned effectively showing me as the 3rd owner. Ah the joy of cars!
