rbithal
My B6 has almost done 19500 since it's last AVS. However the Service indicator on DIS states 2000 miles to next service. I thought it was a 2 year/ 20000 interval between AVS? or is it due to the fact that I basically do 90% of my miles on the m4? any help would be appreciated on whether I should just book it in for a service rightaway? Or should I wait till the Service indicator tells me... thanks

[ QUOTE ] Now with AVS there is no fixed schedule. In fact the interval can range from 9,000 miles to 30,000, offering fleet managers a considerable saving in time, administration and, most importantly, cost. Typically, petrol engines are achieving an average of at least 17,500 miles and diesel engines over 20,000 between services, with the accompanying cost benefits that the reduction in service visits brings. Guest
From the Vag-Com manual for resetting the AVS indicator for AVS mileage, the max mileage that can occur between services is I think 50k km, and can be changed. 22k miles between services for gentle motorway driving sounds about right. http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/vw_sri.html - same procedure for the A4 B6. Mook
TBH, Rajjy, I would get it serviced anyway. Running to 20K miles without an oil change I know, I know, Audi knows best and so does the computer in the car. But I disagree
Chav
But 20k miles down motorways is less damaging to an engine than 5K miles start/stop round cities. I always thought we should ditch this stupid "mileage" thing with cars and use "running hours" or something!
danksy
Audi are introducing seperate oil services soon the same as BMW do! Basically I think to allow the dealers to fleece us all a little bit more

[/ QUOTE ] Totally agree ref motorway miles causing less wear, although I prefer to change the oil more regularly - clean, spangly oil is better than older stuff that's starting to turn dark brown. Even if you need 9 litres of the stuff for an oil change
