Lusso
Hope someone can help re my brake problem; I had the front discs replaced just under a year ago, no up grade just standard, however im now experiencing brake judder under heavy braking which i just cant live with. Bearing in mind ive not tracked the car (but looking forward to the Combe)is it normal for this to happen in just under 9k miles?
nikw
I had this problem when I first had my car, and after reading up in various places including here it seemed likely to be pad deposits building up on the discs. It's caused by holding the pads static against the discs when both are hot (an easy thing to do with a heavy, powerful automatic car). My solution is simple - whenever holding the car on the footbrake after bringing it to a halt (especially so after heavy braking) I allow it to creep just a little. The car only moves forward a few inches but that's obviously enough because soon after adopting this technique the brake shudder disappeared, never to return. Allowing a bit of creep is now second nature - I do it without thinking about it. I suggest giving this technique a try for a week or so. It's easy to do and doesn't cost anything, so if it turns out not to work you haven't lost anything.
Atomic
Where did you get the pads/discs from? Audi or after market? and does it feel like they are biting and releasing or do you get steering wobble?
Lusso
Im not sure if they were Audi or not however as they were fitted by local non audi garage i guess the worst. The braking is still progressive but judders like hell, but it only happens when braking from speed say 80 mph and above, around town no problem
Atomic
I had non audi pads on my A8 when I got it, they were in simple terms crap. They would bind, squeal and even make a grating noise when reversing and near the end of their life they used to shudder at the rear too..
