I have an A8 2003 3.7 Q. Had it about a month.

I get every now and then a strange squeal from the front when I put the foot down. Its like a high pitched bark?

It lasts for less than 0.5 second

It doesnt sound right, anyone got any idea? Im useless with cars so any advice welcome. It sounds like it might be coming from the left hand side/wheel but not 100% sure.

tx, andy

When you put your foot down - Do you mean when you kick down, ie higher revs. I've seen some funny noises come out if the gearbox fluid is low, particulaly when kicking down and getting a move on. Wouldnt necessarily do it during a normal gear change.

Give us a bit more info. Mileage on car, it is always the same, or worse when warm cold, different revs, cornering or not etc?

yes its when it kicks down on high revs and Im accelerating fast. Usually when the car has just started then the noise seems to dissappear once Ive been going for a while

*exactly* the same as I experienced esp with the noise disapearing once the car had seemed to warm up a bit, ie it only did it from cold, and the colder it is, the more noise ?... I wouldn't expect it at 51K though, unless its recently had a gearbox oil change and its not been topped up properly.... ?

It might be worth getting the gearbox level checked anyhow as if it is that, you dont want to be running round with it low... 169144-ok.gif
