Motormouth
How much difference if any is there between the 1.8T 150bhp unit used in Skoda's vs Audi ? I thinking of taking my Audi to my local Skoda garage for cambelt change, price is cheaper than indie (Fontain £491 cambelt plus extra for water pump ) Would the Skoda (VAG-com equivilant work on the Audi) ? Mook
The labour rate would probably would be cheaper and yes, it's the same engine (depending on the year of your car). Even as an independent, though, Fontain's labour rates are fairly high. If it were me, I would take it to an alternative Audi/VW independent rather than a Skoda garage. Whatever option you choose, just make sure you specify that you want OEM parts
Risky
I'd go on the rep of the garage. My allroad service, brakes and cambelt were done at a local VW independant my neighbour used for his A6.
NeilScarrott
I took my A4 to Skoda in Winchester a year back and they told me to go to Southampton Audi I've found a good independent now (AB Tech in Totton)
Chrisg
If you were looking at Fontain why not give the Auto Pool a call, they are in Iver as well. Did the cambelt on her B5 quattro T Sport last year about £450 incl water pump and a new tensioner arm ( ?) the style had changed and th e new tensioner wouldn't fit, it added another £70 for the part. They also picked up from my work in Maidenhead, just as I went into hospital for a day and delivered back to Bracknell a couple of days later ( I couldn't drive for a week so she took my car.... no problems!) Phil is the guy to talk to. Usual I'm a satisfied customer only... blah
