AZURES3
[ QUOTE ] Anybody know what sort of time the new S3 0-100mph time is? Got asked today and realised i had know idea - guessing about 14secs? [/ QUOTE ] Evo and Autocar both got 13.6 seconds, which in my view is very good. The best I could do at Santa Pod was 14.1 but after reading an article in Evo they rev the cars to about 5000 RPM and sidestep the clutch to get the best times. Something I was not prepared to do I would say 14 was accurate. Its part trick is 0-30 and not yet had a naughty traffic light situation with anything that can beat it. Do you remember ther S3 vs M3 CSL video from my Santa Pod run AZ

AZURES3
Oh dont get me wrong it was 0.7 seconds faster to the 1/4 mile and about 4 MPH more spped and would have pulled away thereafter, they are great cars. I expected to get pasted by the CSL version but it was far better than I expected But in the average traffic light grand prix the S3 is very difficult to beat due to the monster traction and hugley impressive 0-30 time AZ

AZ [/ QUOTE ] Still very respectable indeed OT Went out testing a Ford Asbo for one of my employees yesterday - Salesman saw the S3 and said "looking for something faster are you?" we both looked at each other and cheeky fecker Felt great getting back in the S3 after, it is in a whole different league to the asbo

stevie_d
Yeah, altho I do like the ST, I must admit! However, different prices and different markets imho! The ST's main selling point is the price! For £16k you get a quick car that's well made and sounds great. The S3 just bumps everything up a little, but with a lot more price. It was interesting at a recent track day, my car was "up against" two tuned ST's, to about 250bhp and 270bhp (apparently). On the straights there was very little in it, even between the two remapped cars. However, the S3 could brake later and most importantly put the power down a LOT earlier than the ST's. stevie_d
Az> I did, but I cheated as I have on-track experience, neither of them did and I took the Audi out there to REALLY see what it could do, so I was pushing her bloody hard. There were two hard braking points on the track and most people braked fairly easy going in, I stamped the pedal (ADE stylee) to scrub the speed off later. Brakes still didn't fade one bit, fantastic

AZURES3
[ QUOTE ] Az, is that Woppum's M3 [/ QUOTE ] Nah he was too slow , in fairness he had a running issue and was off the pace. It belongs to SITAS3, its an M3 CSL with an aftermarket catback exchaust I believe, sounds great. AZ

They did come back later however but I wasn't pressing quite as hard.
stevie_d
Saxon> strange, I expected the brakes to fade quite a bit as it's a large car and I am not friendly to them...however, there was no noticeable fade, maybe my right foot compensated over the day, but the brakes certainly held up well I'm envious at you going on teh ;ring tho, I'll be taking the S3 there shortly! [/ QUOTE ] Maybe the brakes were still bedding in? The car was only three weeks old when I went. I managed a sub 10 minute lap on my first ever lap of the ring on a drying track despite taking the first few corners easy and going top side of the carousel. I recon there’s a sub 9 minute lap for someone who is prepared to hang it out. Oh... the car is awesome around the track. On the open road I feel it’s never quite optimised but on the ring it was like another car entirely...perfect. Have a good time and try not to fall off! P.S. Fuel economy may suffer a bit. I only managed 8.2mpg

I only managed 8.2mpg [/ QUOTE ] Feck - That's not much range is it [/ QUOTE ] I got 33mpg on the route down at 70mph. On the ring I was full throttle in third and fourth with speeds typically between 80 and 120mph. Nudged 140 on the straight at the end of the lap. Great place but I was being a bit cautious as I didn't want to visit the scenery. Next time I may try a bit harder. S3Rob> Enjoy and let us know your time. I'd be interested to know what the car can really do. P.S. Don't forget your ring sticker. P.P.S. Satnav works a treat!
S3Rob
Nice pic Saxon You got 140mph on the straight? That's not bad going. I've been before so I've got the ring sticker but won't put it on the car till it does a lap.
stevie_d
Damn you guys, I really want to go back now...altho I got no where near 140mph, but I was in a diesel MKIV Golf in the rain and fog
