mcnalu
I've noticed that my battery is suffering a bit recently and traced the problem to the glove box light - it never goes out! Can someone confirm that it should go out and also tell me where the switch is? many thanks Andrew
meriafel
Yes it should go out. The switch is at the rear of the light, the whole assembly is made in clear plastic with (from memory) copper contacts.
mcnalu
Thanks Meriafel. I removed the glove box to find that it hadn't been reinstalled properly after my "water ingress" fix a while back. Also the mechanic had broken some fixings. The cog was off its toothed runner at one side - causing non-smooth opening - and at the other the bar didn't make contact with the light's switch. Unfortunately the light switch mechanism came apart during the reinstallation so now I've got no glove box light, which is better than it being on all the time! I think I'll not bother replacing it - I'll just have to rummage for my gloves in the gloom
meriafel
Sorry, I should have mentioned that you do not need to remove glove box? as it is prised out from within the glovebox. Worth pricing from VW as they are easy to fit but fiddly to repair.
mcnalu
No worries - I realised that the glove box light can be removed without removing the whole box. I had to remove the glove box so that I could reseat it so that the bar actually made contact with the switch.
