Alan536123
Help. I own a 51 plate (Feb 02) A4 3.0 Saloon that has done 33.5K miles. Looking at what's required in the service schedule it looks like the cam belt needs changing and to be honest I don't want to pay stealer prices so I am looking for a local (ish) specialist with a good reputation to carry this work out for me. One garage that's been recommended to me is F A Roper near Bradford, I contacted them and they say it's worth changing the tensioner, damper, cambelt and water pump at the same time. These bits from a stealer cost around £400 and the labour takes the bill to £565 including VAT. My question, is this a good price, do they have a good reputation or can someone recommend a better or cheaper place that can carry out this work close to me location in Dewsbury. Obviously I don't want this work doing by a back street cowboy, you don't mess with cam belts! Thanks, Alan.
paul_tdi
Try gatting the complete kit from somewhere like www.vagparts.com and getting the garage to fit it. I got a complete kit for mine for circa £300 all genuine parts.
