shao_khan
Welcome to tyresmoke. Does the cooling fan kick in ok? Could be something simple like a stat sticking. There will be a couple of guys along that should have some better / more accurate ideas than me.
Tobes49
Is the heater hot or cold? let us know this would give us a better chance at the right guess, but my money would be on the water pump.
bluelowe
thanks for the welcome!! The fans are kicking in yes, and I was told by a friend to try a few things including running the heaters full pelt on hot, and all I get is cold air hope this makes it easier to diagnose!! any help greatly appreciated
Tobes49
Yep, Sound like your water pump has gone! the plastic vanes crack and on tick over it can keep the engine cool but as soon as the rev get up they cant cope! Also due to poor circulation the heater goes cold on full fan but you get faint heat out on a low setting!
bluelowe
where is the pump located ? could it have been damaged by rough terrain ?? there is a valid reason for askin that!!
Tobes49
The pump is located in the engine block and driven by the cam belt. Ruff terrain wouldn't have caused any problems it seems to be the heating and cooling down. Car that do short trip seem to have this problem. Tobes49
realy depends from garage to garage but you can find the price of parts on GSF car parts website, best to do the cam belt and tensioners if they have not been done.
bluelowe
Is it necassary to do Cam belt and Tensioners at same ime as water pump ?? cant imagine him wanting to do it as hes repairing it under warranty for me and his costs will go up !! the guy didnt beleive me about the waterpump after i mentioned your post last wek, now hes discovered it is the pump and thinks hes a genius!! Tobes49
You have to take the cambelt off to fit the water pump, so offer to pay for the belt and tensioner and get them changed!
