AZURES3
Guys It appears that many people say the Delta upgrade is pointless in the R32. I am about to order and would like to kepp the Gamma unit, so the 6cd stays in the dash, then replace the Gamma with an aftermarket unit. I wonder if the 6CD could be linked up to another head unit as I dont want loads of aftermarket issues. Also does the mini DIS in the Golf show radio information that may cause other aftermarket issues ?????? I have to say the space the Delta takes up looks very similar to the Audi Symphony, now thats an idea but I guess not without BOSE to boost it. I've tried to do the very same thing but I've been to 2 seperate car Audio specialists in Cambridge and they've both said no can do..... However, if you find out differently I'd be VERY interested to know.
Bison1379134007
to be honest.. i think the problem is more in the amp (is that part of the head unit?) and speakers... i doubt a sympthony without the bose would do you any good nice plan though... the lack of sub woofer in the boot is a real pain as ANYTHING with a decent base line pops and is completley pants... no radio info on the dis... its not an Audi ya know! [/ QUOTE ] Yep, spot on, if you get a decent Head Unit that kicks out say 45w x4 or 50w x 4 the speakers actually sound quite decent. These Gamma units aren't worth a w*nk. Why VW fit such shite is beyond me.
Bison1379134007
what did you fit then tony?? or haven't you done it yet?? i think if i'm gonna keep the car for a while i need to invest!
AZURES3
So it seems the options are. 1) Just get the Delta and be as happy as you can 2) Order with stock Gamma and replace with an aftermarket unit and sub but then you will loose the 6CD ? 3) Order with Delta and awap out with an aftermarket unit that works with the 6CD, then add a sub. 4) Find out if the Delta has an output for a Sub ? shite I am just about to order and this is all very confussing. TonyD
I haven't fitted mine yet but I have a Sony Head unit that I plan to put in which has a 50w x 4 output so it should perk the speakers up somewhat. A mate has fitted a Sony unit which has 45w x 4 output and it sounds much much better. The bass now comes through much heavier than it ever did with the Gamma unit. AZ [/ QUOTE ] AZ, my advice (for what its worth!) is order it with stock Gamma (saving your cash) and then take it to the nearest Car Audio shop and get a decent head unit with cd changer.... you may not need a sub unless you want to play some hardcore drum and base!! Do you have an R32 already then ? AZ
Bison1379134007
tony which headunit did you get and what did it set you back?
TonyD
AZ, no, I have the 25th Anniversary which came factory fitted with the Gamma Head unit and 6CD in dash unit. If you order it as above, you can take both units out of the dash. The new head unit (Sony or whatever you choose) will fit into the old Gamma slot and you can purchase from your VW dealer (or do as I did and get them to throw it in) a small unit which goes where your 6CD unit would have been. The unit is like a little cubby hole....you can stick stuff in there such as loose change or cigarette / chewing gum packets.
TonyD
[ QUOTE ] tony which headunit did you get and what did it set you back? [/ QUOTE ] Bison, I've got a Sony MD head unit with 10 disc changer. Its a couple of years old now but it set me back £750.00 when I bought it as it was top of the range.... I had it in my MK3 Golf before. TonyD
No, 'fraid not..... But go down to any VW dealer and find a Golf which has either a single CD player or a Tape player in the dash... directly above it should be the cubby hole unit I'm talking about so you can see what I mean. AZURES3
It all seems a lot of agro for what should be standard fit, that is why I like the Audi BOSE option as you have not aftermarket monkies pulling your dash around. Maybe a second hand S3 with BOSE is the better option for me as I hate shite stereo systems. AZ
TonyD
I entirely agree..... VW can't keep making cars that cost £25k with shite stereo systems..... they will have to sort their act out sooner or later and as the Mk5 is round the corner I have a feeling the stereo will get an upgrade. AZURES3
Bison If you get a minute could you check you stereo manual and see if it support a SUB please. Not sure if the VW's have the same info in their books but the Audi ones normally show the outputs etc for the head units. AZ
TonyD
AZ, I found that by whinging at my VW dealer they offered to get their own guys to fit whatever new stereo I wanted to purchase free of charge for me while they were prepping the car. As it was I turned it down at the time to see what the Gamma unit would sound like but they said I can go back and have it done FOC whenever I like, and that included putting the Cd in the boot for me. Bison1379134007
i might write to them actually... to express my dissapointment in a very weak link of what is, otherwise, a very a good package! might even get try and get a refund on the delta upgrade and send it back... its a shame car mags don't spent a little more time on the stereo system! Newbie123
You could of course change both units in the standard car. Blaupunkt do an in-dash 5 disc autochanger to replace the VW one you could then replace the gamma unit with something like this Blaupunkt Miami CD72 CD Player with RDS Radio, 4 x 50W High Power Output, Radio Text, SHARX, CDR/RW Ready, CD Changer Control (DMS), Disc Naming, 5-Band Digital Parametric Self Adjusting Equaliser, 2 x 4V Preouts for connection of External Amplifiers (Front & Rear), Subwoofer Output, X-Bass, Telephone Mute, Detachable Flip Down Front Panel, VW Blue Display, Anthracite Black Finish OR if you fancy MP3 and don't mind the mulicolour display Blaupunkt Los Angeles MP72 CD/MP3 Player with RDS Radio, 4 x 50W High Power Output, Radio Text, SHARX, CDR/RW Ready, MMC/SD Card Reader, MP3 File Playback from CD-ROM & MMC, ID3 Tag Display, All Bitrates Suported (inc Variable), CD Changer Control (DMS), Disc Naming, 5-Band Digital Parametric Self Adjusting Equaliser, 2 x 4V Preouts for connection of External Amplifiers (Front & Rear), Subwoofer Output, X-Bass, Telephone Mute, Key Card Security & Detachable Flip Down Front Panel, Multicolour Display, Silver Metallic Finish Mmmmmm, might have to do this myself
Chins
I would like to do the upgrade and just use and external amp for the fronts. Therefore it wouldnt need to be a big amp. Seems a shape to have to run all that wiring to the boot and back. Be nice if there was somewhere near the front for the amp. Jonathan
AZURES3
Guys Does the DELTA unit definetly not have any outputs for a sub or amp ?????? Also Newbie's ideas in mind, VAG used to use Blaupunkt to do their systems so maybe the VW 6cd will work with the Blaupunkt headunit ???? AZURES3
The halfords site is excellent, I have selected the car, year and model etc. Also the Blaupunkt CD 72, although not the Miami its the Seattle but only difference is the display colour. Very usefull info and a price. I am 99% sure the VW 6CD will plug into this as it is made by Blaupunt I believe. With this good wattage output it should make a big difference but of you need more then you can add the sub and AMP Thats me sorted then, R32 in Blue, Black leather, cruise control and NO stereo upgrade. ---------------------------------------------------------- We now need to know a little more about your VOLKSWAGEN Golf.
