tidyfinance
I've just had to have a new clutch and flywheel jobby done! My Audi is only a 2002 with 57000 on the clock. Is this a common problem? The Garage repairer has done a great job for me in keeping the price as low as he possibly could but the flywheel was the killer (nearly £500) with £200 going on the clutch, plus his labour which is where he helped me out a little. This, coupled with my battery needing replacement has rackjed up a bill of nearly a grand!!! Have I just got a bad un or what.

[/ QUOTE ] Had to replace the clutch on my 1998 A6 1.8T petrol around that mileage but managed to get away without changing the flywheel, they did tell me it may have needed changing when I booked it in as may the slave cylinder. Don't know if others have had to change at similar miles? I also had all the window lifters replaced under warranty at different times in the first 3 years of owning the A6. I loved driving that A6 and most of the time I enjoyed owning it but I did have a few problems with mine. Front suspension was the other area that seemed to cause me hassle. Hope yours is reliable from now on!
ChrisGoulding
Strangely enough, I have literally just picked up my 2002 A6 Tdi 130 from the garage. Yes, you guessed it. Had to have a new clutch and dual mass flywheel replaced along with some welding to the gear linkages. Fortunately, it was all covered under the warranty as I have only had it 2 weeks. The nice chap at the garage said that the flywheel system used in these cars are c#@p and as I had exactly the same problem in a Golf Mk4 GT Tdi a couple of years ago, I'm not going to argue. That time it cost me £1200 to repair!!!! The Audi is running like a gud en now. So in answer to your question, Yes it would appear that it is a common fault. danksy
If it's of any comfort to you, my MY 08 D3 A6 is going in to get the Dual Mass Flywheel looked at under warranty..
Edd_W
If your has a full VAG history you may get a goodwill gesture back from Audi. My wife's A4 just had two coil packs replaced FOC via Lister's in Coventry. It only has 21,000 miles on it though.
tidyfinance
What's a VAG history Edd? I'm up the road in Nuneaton but fear I wouldn't have been able to get this sorted with a good will gesture anyway. Bought mine from 'Available car'. Edd_W
You are new to this I guess? Doesn't matter where you bought the car if it has a full VolkswagenAudiGroup (VAG) service history you may sometimes be able to get some help with the cost of putting a problem right but that would generally have to be down to the discretion of the dealer doing the work. As you have had this done now if the car has good history, it may be worth writing to Audi at Milton Keynes. Even if the work was done outside the VAG network, they had to buy genuine parts from a dealer - most likely Listers. Each case is different so I would not bank on anything but it is worth a try, as I said, if the hostory is all there and VAG - they can tell from the reg number. For us, the two coil packs cost effectively about £300 because there is no way I would normally pay Listers £430 to do a service which equates to an oil and filter change plus a cabin filter & an MOT! radix
Hi, I was in traffic yesterday, and the car was in 3rd gear not 1st, and it cut out...i simply just started it again and put it into 1st, but this time it proved quite difficult! I pulled in to examine the problem, noticing that it was stiff going into all the gears while stopped, but it would change up ok, but not perfectly, while in motion. It was harder to change down... I'm presuming its the clutch and flywheel...its a 2002 with 113k miles on the clock. I'm bringing it to an Audi dealer on Monday....
