LadyP
Ok. Desperate for your guys thoughts... Just been to look at a Mk5 T.Red GTI with Monza 18's. Drive was lovely and very tempted to snip it up right then and there... v sexy - and a bargain. But being the sensible soul that I am I wondered if any one had any more information on when the facelift golf and / or Mk6 will be out? Not wanting to buy and then find out that there is a facelift out in Jan (and the dealers do seem to be offering good discounts at the mo which always makes me suspicious...) I presume that any Mk5 facelifts will not apply to the GTI, or am I being naive?? If this is the case then it shouldn't lose much value until the Mk6 is out.....right? In an ideal world I don't want to lose much on this one in a short amount of time....
StokeGTi
Hi and welcome to Tyresmoke! Autoexpress this week state that the Mk6 will not be available until 2009. It will be on show at Paris in September 2008 with orders being taken by dealers from December 2008. No news on whether the GTi will be available from launch or whether it will be delayed like the Mk 5 was. There is a rumour that the Mk5 will get the Ed30 engine next year, but no confirmation about that.
LadyP
Thanks for that I'll have a look. On that basis do you think the facelift will be this spring and do you think the gti will be facelifted?
RedRobin
Whereas it's all speculation, I would be surprised if VW bother to facelift the GTI significantly but of course I could be wrong. This doesn't help you LadyP but whenever you buy anything there's always the possibility of a later version just over the horizon. The Mk5 GTI is well liked particularly because of it's frontal styling. I guess that lights might be 'facelifted', especially the rears. Was the Throbbin' Red one which took your fancy, DSG or Manual?
StokeGTi
The Mk6 is supposed to be getting the same "face" as the Eos so I doubt that they'll do much to alter the front of the Mk5. It would be a good move to give it the Golf+/Passat rear lights, though. I just think the current set up is not very safe as the indicator "disappears" into the brake light on the current set up, when indicating a turn & braking. Apart from that, no complaints after 22,000 miles. I still love it;wish I had the 18's though!
LadyP
manual - really liked the gearshift, but hear the DSGs are also awesome. I know that there's alwasy a risk - I am just suspicious that they seem to being reduced now... suggests to me that the facelift must be really soon... but then again the pictures // rumours of the facelifts are still really scarce so may be it will be autumn instead. From the piccies I have seen looks like the "Mk5.5" golf is going to look more like the current GTI so fingers crossed for not many

Bit like seeing an attractive girlie - How sad am I As you can see, she has already had a facelift!
LadyP
just wondered if you were a collector... as wouldn't mind a corrado as a project car Would you recommend the dsg over the manual?
Snoopy
The latest news i have i posted not so long ago when a similar thread to this came up. I also know were autoexpress's gets alot of there info You will normally get decent discounts this time of year as foot traffic in dealers is slow. [/ QUOTE ] ....The only things I'm a collector of is mods for my one and only car DSG vs Manual is a very personal judgement and if you do a Search in this GTI and the R32 forums you should find plenty of info. Considering what real world driving is like nowadays and also how well matched the DSG box of magic is to the 2.0T and 3.2 V6 VeeDub Golfs, I would definitely recommend it but I do accept that some still prefer Manual. 95% of the time I drive mine 'manual' with the paddles - Faultless and superfast gearshifts guaranteed every time and then relax and pop it into 'automatic' for traffic jams or urban driving. aceplumbers
i have the dsg in my ed 30 lady p . and think it's great , my wife loves it too , makes you lazy though
RedRobin
....I was lazy for the first 20,000 miles by only using D and S modes but then I did a Drivetrain course and use the paddles 95% of the time. It makes far better use of the gears - Tighter control.
chriswastle
Hi Robin, Is you bonnet shut properly in that pic?
RedRobin
....That pic was taken before the bonnet was adjusted to fit better. John_Carter asked the same question in another thread. Bear in mind that the CF bonnet is double skin and thicker than the stock steel one.
