Missing vehicle data sticker on import car

I've had my import GTI for a couple of weeks now and have got a Dutch service log book and an English one. Both have been stamped and dated by the Dutch dealer but neither has a vehicle data sticker inside it. The data sticker in the boot of the car is there though.

Do I need a data sticker in the log book for any warranty work or is the one in the boot sufficient?

Will I need it in the log book if I want to sell the car on?

If I do need one then how easy or hard is it to get a replacement sticker?

I bought the car through cars4charities.

Cheers.

Yeah it's strange that the sticker wasn't in the original dutch service book. They must have forgot to do it for whatever reason!

I'll drop cars4charities an email and ask them to get the dealer to get a replacement sticker. This should be possible I hope.

I suppose VW could get the data from the sticker in the boot as it contains the same data. I could take a photo of it and print it off!

I scanned my data sticker page from the service booklet, and e-mailed this to VW UK to register my import ED30 (with V5 and PDI stamped page)

If you're clever with Photoshop or some other photo software you could possibly scan your blank service book page and then superimpose the photo of the data sticker from your boot onto it - it may look like the real thing sekret.gif

Where is it in the boot ? I've never noticed that one

I might just do that if I get nowhere with cars4charities. They have been very helpful (answered all my queries promptly) during the purchase of the car so hopefully they will sort it out.

The sticker in the log book is the same as the one in the boot so it's not as if I would be forging anything or stealing another cars identity.

I totally agree with you RR re photoshop changes.

btw I've just compared my boot sticker to the one in the service book and they are noticably different...

I would have thought that they should be the same. Do they have the same layout but have different codes or are they a totally different layout but with the same codes?

My data sticker (from service book) looks like this (with serial number blanked off!) :

It would be good if someone had a decoder confused.gif

DataSticker.jpg

As long as your VIN Number on the sticker in your boot matches your V5 I'm sure you will be fine.

Just fax/send a photo/scan of your boot sticker to VW UK to get your car registered (together with your V5 and PDI page.)

Once registered with VW UK you will be able to get all warranty work done, regardless of the data sticker not being in the service book.

You will also get full VW Roadside Assistance 169144-ok.gif.

I'll take a photo of the sticker in the boot and use that. Have to wait until the weekend to do it as it's dark when I leave the house for work and dark when I get back!

Hopefully it should be ok.

Thanks for your replies.

Went to the dealers this morning to register the car. They accepted the printout of the data sticker from the boot smile.gif

Hopefully, I should get some breakdown cover. Not sure if you get VW Assist with imports though. Website says no but some people say yes. Should have asked the dealers but forgot.

You are definitely entitled to VW Roadside Assistance - even if you don't receive anything in the post (like me). Ring VW Roadside Assist on 0800777192 in about a weeks time to check, and ask them how long your cover lasts. You may be pleasantly surprised at how long you are actually covered for (I know I was) sekret.gif

Good news about getting it registered with your boot sticker 169144-ok.gif
