Britquattro
For the past year I've been completing a transplant of a 1997 4.2L V8 from an A8 into an 1985 UrQ. Mechanically we're complete. We're having difficulty getting the engine to completely ignore the automatic transmission with my manual transmission car. The engine runs fine and has no issues with 4000rpm power loss and cutout but it still throws occasional fault codes related to transmission sensors out of range (we have the automatic gearbox ECU connected as well). The questions I have are these: Can the ECU simply be reprogrammed to be a manual transmission variant? If not, does anyone know the part numbers of the ECU and the engine wiring harness for a manual transmission A8 with a 4.2L V8, and I'll try and purchase those parts. And lastly, has anyone on this list done this conversion, even on an A8 that cold shed some wisdowm on my plight..... The folks on Audiworld said this list may have more answers for me. Thanks so much in advance.
LostKiwi
What happens if you just disconnect the transmission ECU? I guess Hilly is the one for this as he put an ABZ (32v 4.2) into a Lotus Esprit...
Atomic
Dispite throwing codes does it work?
Botang
You might like to look at TozoM8's post on audiworld from when he did his 6 speed manual conversion using an S4 gearbox. http://forums.audiworld.com/a8/msgs/105016.phtml

Britquattro
It does work, no degradation in performance, but I need it not to throw codes in order to get it legally registered as a vehicle with a transplanted engine.
showtime
i'm pretty sure Hilly had a bespoke engine management system on his build!
