Riz
Just curious can this damage anything on the car or invalidate warranty? How much louder does it actually make it? Riz
ChrisR32
It's a completely reversable mod - you can do it just by cable tyeing the pipe so it shouldn't invalidate the warranty(Providing they haven't got some kind of snazzy download thingy to tell what you've been doing ) It is apparantly a nanny-state thing to quieten the exhaust down at low revs to get it past the drive-by noise regs so it shouldn't do any damage either. It is apparantly MUCH louder at idle up to about 3k.

gammaray27
Yeah! How much of a difference is there? If you pull the tube off, or pinch/crimp the tube shut it'll do the same.
Gti_Fly
It certainly makes the exhaust VERY loud if you pull the pipe off. And I'm inclined to think it makes the engine feel more snappy/responsive too (but this could be down to imagination). It will shock you though, how loud it is, the first time you pull the tube.. [/ QUOTE ] The first time I pull the tube? I;d like to see the car in the flesh first! hahaha. Well Actually I saw it at the autoshow, but for only a second. Either wait, I cant WAIT to get mine! Soulboy
sorry to keep bringing this subject up, but I am going to do mine this weekend and was wondering which is the best way of doing it. It just seems that taking the pipe off then putting bungs in both ends with some tape then putting it back on sounds a lot more difficult than just pulling the pipe off! or using a cable tie / freezer clip! Any feedback would be welcome. p.s. To Al What are you going to do on 'not the lemon' ?

Smudge
[ QUOTE ] p.s. To Al What are you going to do on 'not the lemon' ? [/ QUOTE ] Not sure yet. I did try it on the Lemon & found it to sound a bit too noisy for my liking. I want to AmD Stage 2 or even 3, and the Miltek would obviously cancel out the need to mod the valve, but the purse strings are fecking tight at the mo. We'll see. Al. PS - the "not lemon", I think I'm gonna call her the deep blue toy of joy!
JamR32
I take it that it has no effect on the running? You can't damage the car can u? What was the idea behind the valve anyhow?
Smudge
The valve mod doesn't damage the car to the best of my knowledge. I've even heard that some dealers will do it for you? The valvee was put on to meet some laws in Scandinavia I think. There are a lot of comments & info here, here & here .
JamR32
Just done the mod...seems fine. The exhuast note seems to be a bit more 'raspy'.I think i'll call AMD tommorrow and ask em what they think. Jason
Soulboy
Took it for a 'proper' blast today - it has DEFINITELY improved the performance of the car!!! It feels like the valve was completely choking the low end. Just a thought - if it did damage the car in any way (sure it doesnt) then there will be a lot of spannered second hand R32s for sale in the future! Thanks for the tip y'all - would not even have known about it without this forum.
