RobGTi
I've got a few questions about this if anyone would be willing to not shout at a newbie I am a member on DW and I read the Studio and Showroom and I do regularly "detail" my cars. However, they are all suffering quite badly from swirls which I can only assume were inflicted by the previous owners as I am using the usual 2 buckets with Grit Guards and a lambswool mit and taking all of the usual precautions that I am aware of to minimise the chance of producing swirls in the paint. I do all of the usual stuff with claybar etc and the cars do look great, but the swirls still really annoy me. Now am I right in thinking the G220 is a "pc" that you can buy without having the hassle of needing to buy power converters etc? And, am I right in thinking that I wouldn't need a PTG (is that what the paint depth gauge thing is called) as you would have to be doing it very wrong to "burn" through the paint with such a machine (as apposed to a rotary?) Any help would be much appreciated, and I promise I have tried searching on here and DW for the answers Oh yeah, and one last question, I think I have read that you cant use a PTG on Elises or VX220s because of the "plastic" bodywork. Is this true? Thanks
ahaydock
Hi mate (a fellow DW member here). The G220 is a Dual Action Polisher like the Porter Cable and yes there is not really a need for a PTG IMO and it is hard to get it wrong, although I am not sure about your car due to the panels. I have a G220 and am currently correcting my GFs paintwork very successfully and it just comes down to a bit of patience and getting your technique right. HTHs? alexc
As Alex has mentioned, the G220's are easy to use and very safe due to the motion of the rotation. There's a wealth of knowledge on DW, plenty of pro's to ask. Otherwise you can also go for a Tutorial DVD which will give you some excellent info and tips on how to use the machine! steelwind101
the Sonus kit is by far the most idiot proof. Good results and easy to use, SFX1 pad with SFX1 polish, SFX2 pad with SFX 2 polish etc. YOu can do other combos but if your looking for a no brainer solution. But you do need to atleast grasp the basics of what the polish is, how it is used and how it works to know really whats going on under the pad.
