DJStrange
I've been looking for specs/sizes/locations of speakers/amps/crossovers for the standard D2 S8 audio system, but can't turn up anything. Has anyone got this information available? I'm looking to replace a rear speaker that's been butchered/bashed. I'm also interested to hear if anyone has fitted after-market equipment? I've got an Alpine 9860R & some 5.1 gear I'd like to fit at some stage... Off-topic, I spotted a 2.8 A8 this morning, S***AFJ I think it was. Looked nice Anyone on here? Ska
Was not I mines on a P plate. What colour was itand where did you spot it? I've got an old school Alpine set up in my mota. SAT NAV/monitor amps yada yada yada.. Front/rear door speakers are 4" but fronts have an enclosure (3 screw mounting); though I have heard larger sizes having been accomodated with spacers IIRC. The hat shelf speakers are an odd size around 7" ish again IIRC; Some guys prefere to remove these and vent the bass from subs in the boot through the opening, I've just switched them off and vented the bass through the ski hatch. DJStrange
It was a dark colour, possibly blue. On the M1 south near Leicester. Looked very clean, think the driver had hi-vis clothing on. I've only ever seen one other out on the roads in the last 5 years, that was a black 3.7 near Garstang on the M6. Ska
Where abouts are you based in W London? Perhaps we'll bump into each other; Not literally though I hope
DJStrange
Working/lodging near Ruislip, so technically not really W.London, more like Middlesex, but for a country lad like me it's as close to the smoke as I want to be! Sometimes I socialise around Kilburn/Cricklewood, but mainly it's all work down here and play is done back north in Lancs/Yorks.
DJStrange
Well, found this on the Bose site, but it's for the A8. Not sure if it's the same as the S8. http://www.bose.co.uk/GB/Images/Audi_A8_(D2)_Baujahr_1993-2001_DE_tcm6-6242.pdf
Ska
Great find - Can't see why the sizes wuld be different for the S8. BTW what colour is you S8 must have seen you up and down the West end road or high st. sometime
DJStrange
It's the same colour as your avatar, silver with standard 18" rims. However, I sometimes drive my Vectra GSi too, just while I decide if I'm gonna keep the S8 as the veccy does 30+mpg all day long, allbeit with half the power and FWD (2.5 V6). I'm sure I'll keep the S8, just a bit shell-shocked with the running costs at the moment, and I haven't even dared think about servicing yet - something I've always done myself on the vec. £80 to self-service the vec vs £500+ for the Audi according to the stealership paper trail I got with the car. IT_S8
A8 / S8 are identical speakers. Bose and Non bose all have same size fittings too, so its truely a one size fits all....
DJStrange
I'm gonna start having a look for aftermarket speakers first, then compare to OE stuff and decide which to use as this rear speaker is really flapping about a bit (I wondered why the bass was set really low - guess I know why now!!) If I do go aftermarket, I want it stealthy and classy like the OE stuff. Just waiting for my new travelpilot software to arrive too...
